I thought the Triple Play Series had Buck Martinez as an announcer?

Anyway, E3 should be a better telling where we are at commentary wise.

This was the first time I ever watched that clip. I could be wrong, but did anyone else hear an actual name or team name being called? It was just a lot of pronouns. Disappointed to say the least.

NBA 2k has been doing it extremely well for years and years.

I don't get it. It's always something like "the quarterback did a great job here getting the ball to his running back..." Seems like they could easily insert the names of the players involved even if it's a bit awkward.

They keep thinking we need new *flashy* (it's EA, go figure) commentary teams but they always miss the fundamental aspects of having a good system.

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary

This is the first time Ive seen this video and heard the audio during the game.

This only proves what I have been saying for years....the commentators...be it Madden and Micheals, Johnson and Collinsworth, Simms and Nantz or any other combo of your favorite or most hated NFL commentators...they arent the reason commentating in Madden sucks. Its the way EA implements it in the game. Its still choppy, robotic and boring. There is still no life and awkward pauses. I am not an NFL 2k5 fanboy by any means, but it still shocks me how much better they did it nearly 10 years ago. Sad that a game release that long ago on a far inferior console still takes Madden to school in so many ways. Presentation, audio, animation, physics....pretty much everything but graphics and maybe franchise mode.

I just dont understand how that can happen. And like I said...this isnt meant to praise NFL 2K as much as it is to compare Madden to a game released so many years ago that is still clearly better in so many ways. HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN? Laziness and lack of desire to make a quality game for what is one of the biggest brands in the America.

EA is such garbage. Worst gaming company in America. They butcher once great games and never improve much on flagship titles like Madden. Seriously....can anyone that isnt a Madden fanboy tell me what they actually see that has improved much? The graphical overlays in presentation look a bit better....but despite getting a new team the commentating is still terrible, the gameplay looks exactly the same, and I havent heard of any notable franchise improvements.

Ehh...so disgusted with this BS...but not shocked by any means. I may not even follow Madden anymore until next gen, because its clear nothing is going to change much until then. And if EA keeps monopolizing the NFL license, well....probably not then either.

Exactly what I was thinking... and the fact that in that 2:30 span, the same touchdown commentary about "changing how the other team manages the game from here on out" scares me a little. I read the previews for M13 and got really psyched... but the commentary seems to have been not improved but replaced

The video is from a older build, I'm really looking forward to hearing some new audio during E3. The audio in the podcast sounded better and you hear some players and team names and stuff. This video is doing more harm than good IMO. The commentary in the podcast made me feel better than I initially felt after hearing the audio in this video.

I am prepared for and not expecting the E3 commentary to be much more name specific than the last commentary released on the podcast. Reasons being, ChaseB has repeatedly stated this is the first year and that they have made the decision that fluidity takes priority over just getting names in.

I am cool with this premise and think this will lay a great commentary foundation going forward but I just think people have been burned by the infamous "give it time" statements concerning next-gen Madden too much. It's understandable considering next-gen Madden has yet to flesh out a single touted NFL feature to the point of being solid, imo. However, modes like MUT (from what a hear) and online ranked seem very well done and managed.

I think it is a disservice to encourage people to expect any more from Madden 13 than they actually can experience and verify for themselves because at the end of the day, it is what is. If people are disappointed at this point, let them be disappointed but feel free provide your POV on it.

They did say Rob Ninkovich's name in the livestream, so if that's any barometer (and I know it probably isn't) I think we'll get a decent bunch of names. I'm really interested to hear how it all sounds now that we won't hear any players referred to by numbers.

I really hope they have enough tackling animations. I like the consecutive hit tackling from Madden 12, but the animations didnt always sync with both defenders, and I was left with seeing one defender make the tackle, while the one who made initial contact is warped out of the play.

I think it will be about 60/40 in favor of names. If they say names and then say "he" I'm perfectly ok with that, because that's how it is in real life a lot of times. I'm even ok with them saying numbers as long as they say names right after that because that happens too. I was watching the Pats Steelers game on youtube the other day and Nantz or Simms said "What a great defensive play by 56 Lamarr Woodley". I am not expecting a major improvement in the commentary compared to what we heard in the podcast, I expect it to have some minor tweaks and probably sound a little smoother. If last year's commentary was a 3/10 I would say this years will probably be a 7-7.5/10

Thank you! I felt like I was the only one that couldn't stand that. This really hurts the immersion factor for me.
will not change this until a buffalo team wins a championship.

I don't disagree, but I do feel people need to wait till June 4th as the EA Sound Designer did admit that was an old build and to stay tuned in the future.

By E3, then it should be it is what it is. Not saying that the video commentary posted will have a big huge overhaul, but one should reasonably expect commentary to be tuned and tweaked.

As stated earlier, I understand people's frustrations and we live in a society of wanting it now, but I feel laying the foundation and building on it is better than rushing it out with bugs in place, ie pro-tak, the Extra Point and then removing it altogether.

If this game had any history of doing this I would agree, but it doesn't. In the past 7-8 years of current madden, I don't know a single feature that was implemented in Madden the first year, added to year two and finely polished year 3 the way you are describing.

I agree with giving them til E3 of this year tho.

I agree and that is why I stated what you didn't bold, pro-tak, the Extra Point, etc......, but I'm also giving the doubling of the game play team and Cam Weber and company the benefit of the doubt, and yeah, you can come back and say Ortiz and Ian over and over and I still feel different than those years, but we'll see.

Don't you agree that things can change?
