To me catching is no where near where it needs to be, mainly because its canned animations. Hopefully they add the IE to receiving someday. Imagine a unlimted amount of catch animations.
Could be a problem with your timing. Fades were giving me problems until I spent some time in practice mode. My problem was not throwing it early enough. You have to throw almost immediately after the snap.

I have this problem, even on all-pro. I'm Dallas in my CCM, and my last game was against Chicago and he finished with 7 drops. At least three of them were just wide open drops with no one around.

next game i play i'm gonna check my drops by my rookie WR Josh Gordon because he seems to catch everything i throw his way like i said he has even dove for balls that were out of his reach and caught them. i may test out dez bryant and see what happens.

Also, clicking on to the WR and gently tap/release the Y button (on 360) right before the ball reaches the WR seems to help.

I think the bold is GREAT if true and I just don't get the sentiment of the two following post. I am about to get into "sim snob" mode, so forgive me.

I have been ranting ever since I joined OS about having a more realistic process in Madden for actually securing the catch and this seems to be a solid step for that. In the NFL, receivers have to look the ball in and secure the catch before heading upfield or they can drop it. Having that represented in Madden is a good thing. Also love the fact that everything that looks like a secure catch, isn't and the ball can still be knocked out. In M14 hopefully the can extend this to defenders for breaking up INTs and allowing receivers to trigger pass defense animations.

If you wanted to be a sim snob, you might rant about how Dez appears to have trouble securing the catch in Madden, when he doesn't have this issue in real life.

Last night I read somewhere in the disc content that pressing and holding Y "increases your catch window". I've been trying this and it seems to be helping a fair amount of the time. Don't hold Y too long or you'll get that jumping animation after the catch though.

For deep wide open passes..yes this is absolutely true..but for situations when a defender is very close..it really helps to take control of your player and fight for that pass..otherwise there is a chance you may see a interception or a blocked pass.....There were certain passes when i should of been easily picked by my bone headed hasty pass but fortunately i learned that if i take control of my WR before the ball gets there..i can maneuver a bit and get in front of the DB to make the catch...this is why i love this year's passing system..i see QB's make bad throws depending pressure and if he's on the run or in the pocket..on the flip side i can control where i want my pass to go with a decent QB a lot more now and i can also take control of my WR and adjust my WR's position to catch a pass that may be just a tad off target....

People harp and b1tch about passing..*not directing this to the thread starter* ...i am just saying i see some people posting about the passing, interceptions, dropped balls, bad throws,etc....bro's...this year madden finally has gotten the passing game down pretty good...although its not perfect and i see some crap some times that shouldnt be there..but overall once you get the passing down, learn to be patient and learn everything i mentioned above...it makes for a decent and pretty fun passing game in M13. The main issue at first was me getting down the pressure i put on the passing buttons and how i angle my stick when my QB is in his passing motion..once i got that down..interceptions dropped down to normal averages per game...this is one thing i see a lot of people complaining about...but if you give it time and finally get that "touch" for the passing trajectories in this year's game..it feels NICE!

Nah because I don't think Dez is dropping those in Madden, if the User doesn't try to turn upfield too quickly. I could be wrong about Dez but I wait until my receivers have secured the catch before trying to break out.
