Re: Attention to detail and the "little things" in the Madden franchise.

I believe that the defenders in double coverage need to work fluently together, not both act as if they are single covering the receiver

Obviously the whole coverage system(as well as line interactions, pretty much the whole defense) needs an overhaul, but double coverage can be very frustrating.

And not sure if this was posted earlier, but bring back defensive assignments!!! Sick of people putting their number one WR at TE spot or WR4 spot and are matched up against a defender whos got no shot at covering them. Then they hike the ball before an adjustment could be made

I want a practice squad so freaking bad for those bubble players that I end up signing to my roster when someone goes down with a long term injury. As of now I just release him and he never gets experience. If he we on my practice squad he could still participate in practice drills. A waiver wire would be really cool as well.

I want the contracts signings to be deeper. I want to be able to sign an inconsistent player to a low base heavy incentive contract so I only pay what they produce. It should be a thinking game when you mull over thecountless spreadsheets we are put through between games. Just give me depth, the option for people to learn the intricacies, and the option to turn it off.

Educate the fans with video tutorials like other EA games have done in the past to help me understand different defensive strategies.

Also, for the love of all that is right, figure out a way to make me re or rolb my most dominant pass rusher. I play as the Cowboys and I will get better pass rush from my 3-4 run stopping ends and lolb rather than demarcus ware.

Another thought: expand the depth charts and give me a really smooth menu to assign players to certain sub packages. Defensive assignments need to come back as well.

Re: Attention to detail and the "little things" in the Madden franchise.

        I think this says it best when it comes to the little things;

Have all of your devs pick up a copy of NFL2k5 and see what they did right all those years ago. The presentation, the replays, the overall realism in the gameplay. I know it's too late to change a lot of things that madden has to offer at this juncture, but if you wish to compete later on the Next Gen consoles after the licensing agreement fades (hopefully to create better competition in the NFL game world), you really ought to see what was done right in the past, and build on it.

Why is there no player of the game anymore? Where are the interviews, and questionares? Where are the fan respect type interactions, the locker room interactions, the chemistry aspect, the fan favorite, the Tebow type hype, where is the personality? It feels like I'm playing the same scenarios out over and over again no matter what type of CCM I am playing. There's no personality. There's no variation other than position to position. Why can't we have our players have certain stigmas, attitudes, locker room presence, ability to command a team by getting in their faces as a CCM qb or MLB. What madden has always lacked is personality. Where are the combine drills from Madden 96, madden 97? Where are the interactions in the draft? Why can't we have phone calls from coaches and GM's when our contract is up? Why can't we hold out and request more money? Why can't a coach change his playbook, or schemes? Why can't we focus on a particular area of our team that is lacking skill or execution in practices? Why can't we single out our DLine after a horrible performance in the previous game and improve gap control? Where are all the things that make a SIM? We need more in-depth features. Why are there no post game reports, no radio talk, no interaction what-so-ever from the main screens of CCM? No talking with the GM, no incentive based contracts, no control over our coaching staff?

Running the ball and "tron" style runs where the running back (CJ for example) can weave around any and every defender when he bounces it to the outside is ridiculous. There needs to be a better common ground between speed and elusiveness. They don't always go hand and hand. Players are great in the open field, and players are great between the tackles, and there's players that are great at both. A fast player shouldn't automatically be able to run circles around an NFL defense. This isn't highschool football, this is supposed to be an NFL sim.

The zones and defensive ai... are suspect at best. It is far too easy to find the squishy parts of a zone. Slants, deep routs against slower qbs, tight end streaks... Why can't we scheme our defenses to protect certain areas of the field? Adjustments can be made in the game with double teams, matching certain players on others for better matchups, selecting a certain player to maintain containment for scrambling qb's, there are so many things that are void.

Most of all.. I think the lack of personality is what kills me. It feels like I'm playing any other madden when I play a game. My player in CCM has full control over every play, I get no rewards for good routs or hitting the hole or performing a proper checkdown, I get no negative feedback for missing an assignment or making an improper read. I receive no incentives, no bonuses, no negative response from the coach or gm, no props and no time spent in a dog house. There needs to be repercussions for how you play on the field. If a rookie, or hell.. vet running back for that matter fumbles the ball, or doesn't produce, another back is brought in his place. Why can we not experience that? Why are we able to chose the play, audible every play, and even call hot routes as a player other than the QB? Why can we have full reign over the playbook at all times?

I could go on and on and on and on. There's a lot this game needs.

Again, go take a look at NFL2k5 and see the amount of presentation is in that game, even the sidelines look and feel more realistic, the halftime show is fun and refreshing, the ingame replays actually look as though they were on TV. I love madden and have owned every one since 1992, I would love to see it return to being the premier football game out there, but where you guys are heading is the wrong direction.

WHY CAN I PICK MY PLAYS IN CCM?!!? I still don't understand that. No matter what I'll always reach my goals, even as a 65 rated RB, I can amass 500 yards a game on all pro by just calling audibles all game to myself. It's ridiculous.

I feel like most things in this thread are hardly "little" things. Hopefully that tells youn something emm. Madden should be focusing on the big things first like making gameplay feel more realistic.

There are "little things" threads for other games because they do a great job with the fundamentals. For example what good would referee personalities be in FIFA if the penalty system did not work properly?

Im not taking a shot at anyone here just making an observation.

Thats the thing, there is no personality. Madden gives gamers the Bare-Bones of what the NFL is Management-wise and expects the on the field gameplay to keep us coming back...But unfortunately they lack severely in that department too.

I picked up Fifa for the first time since 11 and its amazing how much of a difference there is in the two philosophies of EA Canada and EA Tiburon. Like you said, where is the depth to the game? Yes EA Canada are gearing towards online also but they STILL provide the offline user a bevy of customization options!

I mean how on God's green earth are Formation Subs not in the Game??? Its ridiculous the amount of detail Tiburon skips out on EACH AND EVERY YEAR. They say they want us to customize yet the options they provide are bare-bones. Maybe there is so little detail and personality to this game because they spend so much time trying to make the game FUN for everyone. Or possibly to just fix longstanding gameplay issues, that rarely ever seem to get fixed...but regardless of whatever it may be:

            Heres the Constructive:

Tiburon we WANT specifics. We WANT to be able to choose if we work on stopping the run for that week, or focusing on the pass. HELL REDO THE WEEKS SYSTEM AND MAKE IT SO WE CAN SET EVERYDAY SPECIFICALLY WITH WHAT WE WANT TO GET DONE, LEADING UP TO SUNDAY. A change as small as that would add incredible amounts of realism to the game. Real NFL Managment/Coaching happens on a day2day basis NOT week2week!

We WANT to have disgruntled players asking for more play time, hold-outs, Team Chemistry, Threats from the GM to produce.

We couldnt care less about flashy new menus that are a pain to navigate.
We couldnt care less about TWITTER.

            We WANT the IMMERSION.

Even the scouting of players isnt realistic. FIFA does it much better. They HIRE SCOUTS for at least 3 to 9 months who return with an evaluation of the players monthly. With Madden they'd just need to return every week or so..

We WANT GREAT GAMEPLAY(Shoot forget about everything ive said and fix this first "little things" comes later)

Ive moved on to FIFA for the time being, and yes that game does have a bunch of problems as well. But the amount of user customization, and the realistic career mode it presents are leagues ahead of what Madden has to offer.

Calling it now...If Tiburon does not produce something AMAZING for the next consoles that rivals NBA2K/FIFA/The Show they will be in a world of hurt consumer wise.

BTW everywhere it says WANT change it to DESERVE

Re: Attention to detail and the "little things" in the Madden franchise.

              1. Advanced injuries- More emphasis on minor injuries that happen and linger through a season that effect certain ratings. (no team is 100% healthy at end of season)

              2. Formation Subs
              3. IQ rating- effects progression/awareness etc.
              4. Easier way to compare player stats/ratings that is quicker for offseason moves.
              5. Real replays- lengthen the replays, lets see longer replays
              6. I have trouble seeing the awards in madden13, can you view them all?
              7. Scouting report- Not dumb notes, more like "their secondary is very injured, or they play a lot of bump and run, or their run defense is ranked last etc"
              8. More players in draft.
              9. Revamped Oline-Dline
              10. Better injury/penalty animations

Im sure a lot of the reason why some things get removed or not in is because of space available on disk. The new consoles will take care of this.

I'd like to see the return of the "Home-Field Advantage" feature from NCAA Football 2005.

I loved every part of it. The controller rumbling. The shaking camera at the line with the scrambled play art. It was all awesome. It's one of those little things that added a lot to road games. It felt really nice to be pinned on a big third down and then silence the crowd with a big play. Or make a mistake and hear the crowd get even more nuts.

It always gave a definitive feel to road games and even a me vs. the stadium mentality at times.

Re: Attention to detail and the "little things" in the Madden franchise.

i have another little issue with the rosters, the chicago bears roster inparticular. For three years now CB #30 DJ Moore out of vanderbilt has been our #3 (nickel) corner. for some reason every week for three years of updates he (DJ Moore) gets listed as the 4th cornerback repeatedly. the past 2 years it was zachary bowman that the roster makers kept putting in the 3rd corner/nickel spot on the depth chart. Now fast forward to this year and DJ is STILL our 3rd corner and the roster maker keeps putting kelvin hayden in that spot. this gets frustrating when every roster i get i have to change that for 3 years now.not a huge deal but it does add realism if someone is playing against the bears and dj isnt on the field in nickel formations. i have tweeted posted here and on the madden forum as well about this issue..thanks cant wait for the 16th to get my CCM goin!

Two things, one that I've stated before.

                    1) I don't like CCM simply because of the lack of head-to-head and the inability to play any of the other games. Add that back in.

                    2) NCAA has done this for years: Pictures. Add them.

That personality and game planning you are craving where players had personalities, bad chemistry, wanted more money, less money, demanded to be traded, upset about not starting, game planning like focus on this play during practice today focus on stopping our opponents best goal line plays, focus on stopping their start RB, etc. were all in Head Coach and as you know, that team is now doing CCM. Patience, it will be there eventually. It can't all be added all at once, it will get better, more immersive, and MUCH more personality. I have no doubt about that.

Not every team subs out RBs based soley on fatigue, or just on third downs. Different teams have different ways they get their RBs on the field. Some teams have different style of backs for different situations, like: short yardage, speed backs, receiving backs, guys who are good at running between the tackles, guys good off tackle, and some teams split carries between two or even three backs.

                        2. One way to address this would be to put in the ability to select different packages, as well as programming the AI to use different packages according to the situation. Even the old 16 bit Maddens let you use different packages, like "big" or "hands". These need to make a comeback in some shape or fashion.

Edit: just remembered that you can do this with the right stick at the play call screen, but it is so poorly designed that it is more or less useless, because they actually differ from formation to formation so you're left in the dark as to what packages are available.

Also, you should be able to see what package has been chosen by the offense, so you can choose your defense to match. Subs happen in real lige this way, with the defense making their subs based on what offensive personnel come on to the field.
Yes! I had some ideas on this, too.

                          Player CCM (Superstar Mode):

                          - The option to have control over NOTHING besides what your position requires. (WR's shouldn't be controlling the snap, choosing whether or not to go for it on 4th down, Kicking the ball off, or anything else besides running there routes, blocking, catching and returning Punts/Kicks)

                          - The option to adjust the camera so that it is close up to your player, which would immerse you into your role.

                          Gameplay

                          - Penalties like DPI, OPI, Illegal contact, Illegal hands to the face, etc all need to be in the game and working with the sliders.

                          - Ball carriers need to be able to extend there hands and ride there blockers if close enough to them.

                          - Opposing teams need to choose to kick the ball off more often in games, so that they can get the ball back at half time, instead of ALWAYS receiving the ball.

                          - Players need to have Juke and Running styles to choose from, similar to QB throwing motions.

                          - Special teams needs to not be so uniform and synchronized. Blocks get shed (or let go) always within a 4-5 yard radius and the block shedders seem to always know which way your going before you even go there. It makes it impossible to ever return a kick or punt straight up the middle (Devin Hester like)
