We are still getting teasers instead of gameplay despite the fact the game comes out in 32 days...

I was thinking the same thing when I watched this. My first though was this is way too fast and twitchy for me. But it is a promo trailer after all. Slow and sim doesn't sell games. Big hits and highlight jukes do.

I will still contend that the oline/dline (and them fixing major glitches from current gen) interaction will be what sell the game for me. I was looking forward to the war in the trenches announcement after watching the run on the coach glass gameplay video now this makes me even more anxious to hear how they have balanced the oline/dline. I love running the ball and current gen Madden that was completly brokenfor me. I had to try not to gain 4 yards on every run. I am hopeful the improvements to dline/oline fix that.

Just so we are all clear...you do know that its not real grass and its not a real player...Its a video game. OK..now that we are all hopefully on the same page...In the virtual world of video-games it is my personal opinion that the player model's feet are definitely hitting the virtual turf with each foot plant that is more than acceptable for a videogame.

Yes, EA marketing tends to put out nice looking teasers and trailers but it's vinyl siding and storm windows on a termite infested house with a faulty foundation. I applaud true step and any other effort to fix the foot planting and locomotion issues but that's undermined with the overall player movement and animations. People way more knowledgeable than me have been stating forever, it's futile to add things like Infinity Engine which augments existing animations, when the existing animations are bad.

“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the wine would burst the wineskins, and the wine and the skins would both be lost. New wine calls for new wineskins.”

I'm not seeing any difference. I mean it looks the same with better lighting.

Thing about this is that everyone is holding back. It's almost like they have gotten together and agreed to hold off until some point in time that there is going to be some huge negt gen deluge of information. Only thing I really have seen to this point are sizzle trailers and the Assassin's Creed making of videos (which should be done by every studio in my opinion).

I just watched the clip 3 times and that foot hovering scene in particular. The feet are definitely NOT plated in the grass at any time as far as I can tell.

I think the true-step talk is more referring to momentum and balance. The feet touching the ground have nothing to do with that, as long as the force, impact, and momentum are taken into account (as someone stated earlier). The feet not touching the grass is a cosmetic issue that they need to fix elsewhere.

I was just saying that it doesn't actually touch the fake grass. It appears to be a cosmetic issue. It doesn't really bother me as long as the foot-planting is there.

we've seen alot of next gen already. its called the saints vs dolphins video. They heard the backlash and went back to little teasers. The game is a month away and we haven't seen anything significant. They are backtracking because of how bad the mnf video looked.

oh i forgot it was 'encoded' improperly... never mind...smh

I loved the O-Line D-Line interaction they showed so far. Loved Avril trying to get around the edge. And it looked like Kaepernick was just finishing his drop so it's excellent to see that the Ends are getting out with speed. Looks like we actually might have to step up on the pocket. Love that. Also loved Kuechly sliding off his on man to try to get to Matt Ryan. Loved the foot planting Lynch showed even if his feet aren't perfectly on the ground. Honestly I think that's just a 3-D grass angle issue. Not a big deal to me. Also loved Dez tip-toeing. Even though it should've never been taken out of the game.

What I don't like is the animations still have key missing frames. The Peterson run looked awesome up until that awful juke animation. The way it transitioned into the next animation was ugly, even though that juke/cut was a better animation. Also don't like how the 49er's player feet looked as he was going into Lynch. Sideline players still look awful so they probably just added AI to them, because they are still horribly low res'd characters. All the same equipment, same dumb clap animation, it's just they probably have more intelligence and some more animations added.

Honestly I think they just need to rewrite their base locomotion for next year. No matter how good they look they aren't transitioning well into the mo-capped stuff. You can see it on the other videos with guys getting set and them still spinning around on one foot, and the LB's still hunched over and robotic. Gives everything a snapping into animations feel. It's just not fluid enough. That base locomotion system they use it UGLY. Just go into practice mode and move around. Looks to be the same.

Can't wait to see more next week though. Hopefully Monday. This teaser gave me a tiny, tiny bit of excitement.

I was pleased w the teaser...

On the subject of foot-planting, its important the shoe contacts the field as this is how the feet in bounds catch is triggered. I have lost many catches due to faulty animations w the footwork. Sometimes the receiver will dbl tap the same foot.. its a terrible thing to observe.

Exactly. The hovering is only a point of emphasis because if a player is coded independently from the field then it takes additional attention on the physics used to represent the transfer of force when a player is running. We already know Madden doesn’t use the human skeletal system to code their player movement. They rely on animations. Coding players independent of the grass requires those animations not just be canned but rather, receive and process mathematical equations dictating the force impact on the runningback's momentum.

As long as EA takes all that into consideration they can have the players hover all they want. But in the past they were lazy and this hovering was indicative of how players could cut in the opposite direction without penalty.

This is the exact reason no one talks about FIFA players hovering above the pitch. The momentum is evident in their movement so people don’t need to look at their feet to see if they are hovering.
