Honestly I don't have 1 player from the auction house in my line up and I haven't purchased any packs with money and my overall is a 80. My defense can definitely use some work though

Re: how do YOU attack Ultimate Team?
This year I am looking at MUT totally different, like an RPG.
Grind.
All the solo challenges are like quest lines. Starting out easy and progressing up. I grind out the easy stuff and build for the harder quests on All-Pro, or the boss Elite battles on All-Madden.
After collecting some 'XP coinage', I go to level up and improve. Instead of attributes for my character, I am upgrading positions on my team. Brilliant. So I take my coin to the shop in the marketplace hub, and seek upgrades. I personally build up piece by piece through 'Buy Now' on the auction, and occasionally packs. But I like to save up and upgrade each position individually.
Online H2H Seasons is like PvP, going for the main goal of the NFL a Super Bowl. But, just like 'real' PvP, you need to be strong. I don;t just want to jump into a match with a much weaker team.
By this above, I got 2 of my friends who have NEVER played sports games into Madden HUT this year.Comment

Did you get all of your upgrades through pro packs and completing sets?Comment

Re: how do YOU attack Ultimate Team?
This is my first year playing MUT, but I'll tell you what I've been doing so far.
My first instinct was to buy packs with coins (no way I'm putting real money into this mode). After the first two packs, I decided that wasn't the way to go. The first couple get you a decent lineup to start with, but after that it seems very difficult to get more than one card that's useful. So I changed my strategy.
I get coins by playing the market. If you spend just a little time looking at sets or browsing the market, it's easy to see where you can make money. When I started playing the market I was doing it with a very small amount of coins (maybe 3k). I'd look for players where most of the cards were selling for a certain price, but one or two were at a much lower Buy it Now (BiN) price. I'd buy those and immediately repost them at a price that was higher than I bought them for, but lower than the rest (particularly the BiN price). Some cards in sets are rare and the quality of the card doesn't always necessitate it's value. I've sold some bronze cards for 2k coins that I bought for 150 because the original owner didn't see if the card was valuable.
That's basically all I do besides play solo challenges to get coins. Overall I've made about 70k coins just playing the market. That's not much compared to what others have done, but it's been plenty for me to build a good team. My OVR is only 77 now, but when I started playing the market it was around 63.
In terms of building your team, buy cards that fit your team style. Mine is speed run, so my goal is always to improve positions on my roster with players that have a higher OVR (though that doesn't always mean they're better) with the speed run attribute. While I'm doing that I'm still playing the market to get the best value. When I'm looking for players, I try to narrow my search as much as I can. A search for "LG, 80-84 OVR, Speed Run" will net you better prices than just looking for Gold players. Usually I'm using BiN, but I'll also put in bids on players and then just keep searching. I don't like to get into bidding wars, but placing bids will sometimes net me a player an hour or two later. I got Sam Bradford for 300 coins on a bid like that.
Same thing goes for defense. I don't have a bonus for that, but I try building my defense around one specialty so that I can get a bonus eventually.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the write-up. This is my 1st year doing MUT as well. I'm a bit lost, but I think I'm getting some strategy down. Up to 72 overall now after just the weekend.
I need to start selling more in the auction house. I've really only gone there to pick up players at positions where I am weak (anyone who is under a 69 overall is someone I'd look to upgrade). So I basically have a roster of a bunch of dudes around 71-75 overall... unfortunately I can't do much with the old guys rated in the 60s since they don't really sell in the auction house (or am I wrong?)
Still having difficulty beating the weekly challenge team. Playing an 85 overall team on all-pro with a low 70 overall team is difficult. Really have to go up by 2 scores then hope for a turnover and just milk the clock out.
Really enjoying this mode though. I find myself playing it more often than my franchise career lol. I think it's because I can just turn it on and play some solo challenges and not have to think too much/invest an hour and a half in one game since the quarters are typically 2-4 minutes as opposed to me playing 12-15 minutes in franchise mode.Comment

Re: how do YOU attack Ultimate Team?
Cards that don't belong to a set are a little bit of a gamble right now. There will be new sets that come along and they could contain a player you have currently. I was quick-selling players who were essentially worthless, but I'm keeping them now, just in case they show up. If they end up in a collection, you can sell them for much more than their quick-sell value.Comment

Re: how do YOU attack Ultimate Team?
Can you only auction items that come from packs?
Whenever I get an item from completing a solo challenge or completing a set, it doesn't give me the option to auction...Comment

Re: how do YOU attack Ultimate Team?
Hello,
I usually approach the ultimate team modes with a degree of caution as they tend to be shameless attemps to get me to spend more money (aka NBA 2K series). However, I admit to having fun with the Madden ultimate team mode. Using the auction house and strategy outlined above, I have assembled a 80 OVR team full of gold players with a 75 GP rating. The next step I guess is to go for elites, so I am playing regular season games for the coins and saving up for a couple of targeted purchases. More importantly, I have developed my team without spending extra money on packs. So far this mode has been a fun mixture of playing (quick) games and team management and I now tend to play this more than the CFM.Comment

Re: how do YOU attack Ultimate Team?
I attack MUT by not attacking MUT. I'm too lazy to do solos, and I refuse to pay for packs, so I just slowly build my team through seasons mode. Buying cheap but quality players. So far that's gotten me to 79 overall team.Comment
