From THIS agreement, in THIS thread in the first post:

2K's NFL games will be non-simulation football game experiences, and are currently in early stages of development. Specific game titles, developers and release dates will be announced at a later date.
Key word there is "games" - plural.

Now if the thought is they may also be developing a third game, that is simulation I won't argue that. But it wouldn't have anything to do with the NFL in any way.

Fingers crossed that is the case as I think everyone who is here in this forum following this would be thrilled.

New article in Forbes about it today. Good read even if it’s just more speculation.

The #FixMaddenFranchise movement began more than a month ago, and while EA has spoken on the topic multiple times, the details of their promised improvements have yet to be shared. In light of recent news concerning NFL games–it would seem EA would have extra motivation to fix its franchise mode.

Re: 2K Partners with NFLPA to Allow NFL Players in Multiple Football Games

Going back to what somebody said about their current Madden titles offering a 'simulation' and 'arcade' gameplay preset, although it's about 99.999% unlikely that 2K is allowed to operate within the confines of said 'arcade' format, I think that is a little unfair that semantically EA permits themselves to define that term in that way but that 2K can't go to those extremes themselves. If anything, that almost feels like a loophole in 2K's favor. Their contracts won't spell it out that way of course, but I'm just saying.

And the sad part for me is that EA can make the best football game under the sun that they ever had, and I still likely won't buy it. Not to spite them, but their core game/gameplay is not something that I enjoy playing. I've mentioned it long ago, but it has to do with the way that the game... well... plays. The control, the camera, the visuals, everything about it. I've tried again and again, and it's just not my go-to. This is partially why I hope 2K doesn't change much from their old format if they go simulation, because I'd hate for them to change all of these aspects toward a more Madden-like style and make me go: "Wait, this isn't the 2K that I remember." We shall see.

Honestly an APF 2K style game with a "MyTeam" card trading game as its set up could probably classify as Arcade

Now this is crazy what if 2k's game allows for both "Arcade" and "Simulation" gameplay.

Why would you think this? They can't make a NFL simulation game, period.

If you are talking about how Madden has an "arcade" and sim mode, that doesn't mean anything. It's a mode within a game that is considered sim, and the only game who can make a simulation NFL game.

My hopes the more I think about it is SIM, is in regards to the actual NFL shield, schedule and teams. I don’t think EA can have an exclusive license on the game of football itself.

The NFL shield and teams would be covered under the license. Both 2k and EA have the right to use the NFL branding and the real team logos and likenesses. Both also have the right to use the real NFL players.

What sim means can be anything, but its not the NFL teams or shield. EA can 100% have it written in their exclusive license contract that they are the only company that can do 11 vs 11 on field gameplay with NFL branding. I don't think personally think sim means 11 on 11, but we have basically zero idea at this point still what sim means. If anyone tells you they know what sim means, they're lying.

Is it possible that this could be a management game? Something like Head Coach? Clearly “simulation” is a broad term, and I know this game can’t contractually let players control an 11v11 game, but could there be contractual wiggle room around the “non-simulation“ stipulation that let’s 2K make a serious management game?

No one knows that at this point, exceot for 2K, the NFL and perhaps EA.

I'm pretty sure 2k is going to bring something similar to Maddens' "the yard". If that were the case I would be excited about that. I do not want an nfl playgrounds/blitz.

I still wonder if sim falls in the respects of being able to control any ball-handler or defender, etc.

So if there was a VR game with sim-like gameplay and you only controlled the quarterback, for example, I wonder if that would fall under such terms.

I just hope I can go a full day of reading new posts and not hear the phrase "**** game" (you figure out what those four letters say). At this point, it's the last thing I hope that I see from them.

Is Madden a real football sim?

The Madden Bowl winner took the crown without throwing a single pass. With a Punter playing QB.

Most of us are in this forum because we aren't happy with Madden as it is today.

That said, our feelings on Madden are largely irrelevant to what the word simulation means as it pertains to this conversation.

I can see this as a real possibility. When APF released a new feature was the tiered rating system and skills like deep threat, quick release, rocket arm etc.

When madden dropped that year, they were featuring a weapons system for the star players.

I’m really not typically a conspiracy theorist but I find it hard to believe that EA happened to decide on the weapons the same year APF released. It wouldn’t shock me if the yard is a response to counter the game 2k is making. It’s a smart business move. Offer the same feature the other game is built around..while still being the only option that allows full 11v11 simulation.
