When's the last time you played Madden? There is far more X's and O's football in Madden NFL 17 than what was available in NFL 2K5, let alone any later version of Madden.

That's not a slight against NFL 2K5, there's over a decade of real time between the two games I compared; of course a newer game is more nuanced. But let's not pretend NFL 2K5 is more advanced than it actually is.

So advanced that the running backs can't run. Dbs can't cover. Lineman cant block and all the QBs play the same. That was last years Madden I'm referring to. And the one before it. And the one before it. And the one before it. And the one before it.

Honestly I can still have fun with Madden but it doesn't feel "right" to me. 2k does. But hey that's just my opinion.

Football is still Football (at least it used to be). Schemes change, the fundamentals of the game really don’t. A lot of schemes aren’t as “new” as people initially think. A lot of football concepts have been recycled.

The game is always going to be about some things, fundamentally. Angles, gap integrity, leverage. 2K has always done that better.

Madden bowl 2020 was won by a guy who used a punter at qb.

All because it sped up the handoff animation (where is a random bobble or fumble animation [emoji848]) and he proceeded to run the ball on every play. That really illustrated how "advanced" schematically Madden has become over the last 18 years.

They can’t even accurately simulate an NFL rule set.

That assertion has been made before and it’s still weak.

Gameplay. In my opinion 2k8 has some of the best gameplay of any football title but this is not going to be a simulation. If you’re expecting a perfect representation of Sundays you’re in for disappointment but I still think 2ks games have offered much better player movement and physics than other sports games. Especially madden from the past 10 plus years.

2k8 was the best but was doomed because of a lack of real current players. I've played the game with updated rosters but most people don't have the patience to bother doing that. Madden still can't beat it. My opinion.

It depends on your priorities and gaming desires. For me, 2k8 was doomed by the absence of a franchise/career mode. I would have been fine with no real players, past or present, but I am spoiled these days - I need a franchise/career mode.

Yup, that was a killer for me.

I've also mentioned it far too many times, but the overall presentation was also way too cheesy for me, and the 2K theme didn't gel well and replace ESPN in a nice way.

Plus, I had come from the PS3 version which had probably 30 FPS, aliasing, and no vibration in the controller (it launched before the DS3 released). The 360 version paled in comparison. I know there is RPCS3 now, but what they are doing with NFL 2K3 trumps that in my opinion.

I guess my question is why do you care if people still like 2k5?

I did not expect to find a thread criticizing a football game that came out a few months before my 9th grade year of HS.

This is the biggest "Who Cares" post ever. No matter what you say, people are going to play the football game that they like no matter how old or new it is. You aren't making a point. You are voicing your opinion. And like I said...Who cares?

2k5 is completely different. It's just better than Madden in so many ways. I don't hate Madden in fact I buy it every year. After a few weeks or a month of Madden I am back on 2k.

It's not nostalgia for me either. I liked Madden 05 way better than 2k5 at the time. I played 2k5 till Madden dropped and it wasn't till I had years of being disappointed by Madden that I really developed my deep feeling of appreciation for 2k5.

The OP was a decent read and I could see his points until the " if you like 2k5s gameplay better than Maddens your delusional" comment. 2k5 has some problem areas but as a whole it feels way more like football than anything I've played from Madden in a long long time.
MVP 05 Baseball was the best Baseball game ever but the Show made them obsolete as you stated.

Madden hasn't come close to making 2k obsolete. It's a tad better than 2k but it's miles behind the current Show and a light-years behind NBA2k.

Honestly, Madden biggest issue is its nowhere close to NBA 2k.

EA luckily do no have a 2k for soccer to play against and get their *** kicked.

Madden just isn't innovative anymore and that's what Madden was in 2004 and 2005.

Franchise mode was excellent. Sadly, its basically on the same level today and it's more barebones today than it was in 2005. Whereas NBA 2k is a million miles better today than it was in 2005.

Ultimately, Madden has no one to blame but itself.

This post smells of a person who didn’t own NFL 2K5, which was one of the deepest sports games ever.

Also the commentary is better than Madden 24’. In 2K they comment on everything from playoff possibilities to situational awareness at the end of the games as it pertains to winning, losing, and surprise plays.

To each their own but NFL 2K5 had surprising depth for a game that came out 18 years ago. Still playable and a dope game to own, current.
