It’s honestly still like that in the Madden boards if you ask me. I was a Madden fan when the first deal was signed and I definitely didn’t like it, but shrugged it off thinking as long as Madden stays good it’s fine. Yeah, it turned awful on the jump to the next console and I’ve hated it ever since

Re: 2k never getting the NFL sim license!!

I am currently going through an "Old Grumpy Guy" stage. Madden is just a by product of the NFL machine that has sold its soul (if it ever had one) for the almighty billions. It isn't about keeping the loyal fanbase happy, it isn't about keeping its most precious resource (the players) safe, it's about making more money. So I can't ever see the NFL caring one bit about some video game's overall approval rating if it is still making money and maintaining its cultural image of "iconicness".

I feel like a rube for obediently following the NFL and falling for its mistreatment and narcissistic practices.

Idk when the college football exclusive license ends
But when it does 2k should consider bidding by throw a big bag $$$ their way
Might have a better chance than the narcissist NFL

There is no single license for college football like for the NFL. EA has separate licenses with all the schools, conferences, bowls, etc. I don't think it's exclusive either, although some of their agreements might be.

I'd rather see 2k put together a similar deal with college basketball to bring back 2k Hoops than taking on EA football, NFL or CFB.

As for exclusive deals, if the NFL, NBA and MLB were really smart, they each would have one video game developer have exclusive deals in even number years and a different company have an exclusive for odd number years. So each video game company would have two years to work on their game but NFL NBA and MLB would still have their brand out there each season. Competition would actually be healthy for EA and push them to strive to be the best version of themselves instead of mailing it in each year on autopilot.

I'm all for college basketball but it's the sport of football game Im missing from 2k

The NFL should do a separate deal for 2k/EA
Madden MUT is exclusive and my player/Myera is exclusive to 2k
That way the hard core fans of those modes will buy both games and everyone is happy

And that could be doable if the NFL realized how much better off they would be in the long run if they would just give EA an exclusive deal only say, for odd number years.

Yeah, I don't think there's an exclusive sim college football license. EA deals with the CLC and use OneTeam for the player group license. It's not like CBB basketball where you need the NCAA license because NCAA owns the March Madness brand. I don't think EA had to deal with NCAA for any of the bowls. They might have some agreements.

But like my feelings towards an EA CBB, I don't think it makes sense for a 2k CFB game without a pro counterpart. Unless you can guarantee CFB 25 initial success, I don't see EA making a CBB or 2k a CFB game. That's creating a game engine from scratch, development and licensing costs for a college game. If you can get the CFB 25, than it'll worthwhile for higher ups. But if they're are just making just enough or worse to justify costs, than I don't know if it worth it, unless they want to expand their portfolio

I love the "OOTB" nature of this idea. Would be a dream for us gamers.

2k makes a lot of money uncontested on their basketball game. I love APF 2k8 but the limitations stunted sales on that game. They won't spend 5 cents on their golf game what makes anyone think they plan on ever doing another football game is beyond me.

I always felt it was odd about the overall 2k Sports portfolio situation. From about '05-14ish, they dropped most of their sports titles because they weren't selling to their desires and doubled down on NBA2K. They had the exclusive 3rd party MLB license and couldn't compete with a then first party exclusive The Show. They kept WWE. WWE was decent this year, but it never felt like WWE 2k had the same type of buzz as the THQ games. NBA Playgrounds was a flop.

I guess now since they're making so much off of NBA2K, they started to branch out with TopSpin and Golf. For a while, it was just NBA2K and WWE was just doing enough. So, I can see why they wanted to expand that portfolio. I don't see them getting into baseball, racing, or boxing/fighting. So if they want to expand anymore, it might have to be football. But, based on no information at all about their Arcade game after almost 5 years, hard to have any faith

NBA Playgrounds definitely flopped thats why there's no sequel and then they announced a football arcade
I'm so confused 2k would make a NFL playground
Those fake arcade games don't sale today
It worked for that generation because little Timmy didn't have access to 100 games (PS plus)
And this generation little Timmy attention span is even worse so I don't believe when people say 2k just want their foot in because 20 years tells me the NFL not budging not one cent less

Why would 2k or EA agree to that? The hardcore fans make up a small percentage of sales for these games, so they’d both be eating into their sales numbers and lose money since the casual gamer would just pick up the first one they saw because it had “NFL” on it.

I would like to think OS's Game of the Year voting carries some clout. CFB25 beat Madden 70-2. Should the NFL look at a number like that and wonder if it is time for a shakeup.

                                Just thinking out loud.
