Player differentiation without using numerical ratings

How are they going to handle this without numeric ratings? Many of the bronze level players only have 1 special attribute. How do you differentiate two bronze level receivers with only one attribute of 'hands'? Will they both have the same speed, same strength, stamina, etc? It seems that many players will be exactly the same.

What about generic players. I assume they don't have a lot of special attributes so what makes them unique.

Are there only two speeds, normal and fast? There is a 'speed burner' attribute but what does this mean. Barry Sanders has this attribute so I assume he's faster than other running backs. Does this mean every RB without this attribute will run the same speed? How do you create a slower than avg RB?

Re: Player differentiation without using numerical ratings

I have had the same question about ratings since they announced the change. My guess is that there are numbers assigned to attributes, but moreso in the background than anything else. I dont see how the entire number system could be thrown out, you have to differentiate between a player who runs a 4.3 and one that runs a 4.6 in the same position. I am not sure how that can be done without numbers.

I think the attributes that dont require numbers, the intangibles or weapons ala Madden, are what they are using to distance themselves from the number game. I think there are still numbers for the typical attributes in the background, we just no longer see them so they aren't as important as they used to be.

Admittedly I havent sat down and REALLY pondered how the numbers could be entirely thrown out, so it's certainly possible that there are no numbered attributes at all this year...I just dont know how they did it if thats the case.

I would guess that players still have individual attributes working behind the scenes - just no more "overall" ratings or rating the gamer needs to be concerned about.

NFL players have skills and at most you can apply a number to how much they can lift; how high they can jump and how fast they are. Other than that the real world doesn't offer attribute ratings either.
