Like i said, i would love for it to happen. I really would. To me Madden is a horrible playing football game. I find no fun in it at all. I cant wait for the day some company. I dont care if its 2K or another to come out and say, we are going for a simulation football game.
I would not mind if it were EA at all, with Madden 10. I want to play sim football, with a decent franchise mode (aka decent draft day experience). I'm not sold on that game because I've seen no footage at all. It's nice to have the devs input and all that but I've been there, done that, you know..

I do agree the timing is bad for this. But when things start picking up, they should consider giving this a go imho. The community factor should never be underestimated. Maybe they will have free $$ as there wont be too much need for personal licenses.

Nor overestimated. First time around seemingly half the community jumped off once they heard there was no franchise mode. Again, I think 2K made a ton of mistakes: they could've been more upfront in discussing why they went in the directions they did, they could've been less restrictive with customization options out of the box, etc. My pet peeve were the horrid uniforms and uniform design options - the game's visual appeal improves dramatically when you see familar or creative unis. I was totally disappointed with what they did uniform-wise.

But I didn't let it stop me from purchasing the game. I remember when the game came out there were people on the board saying they were telling people NOT to buy the game. Idiots like Pastapadre making a big deal about OJ Simpson being in the game, possibly ending up on a team called the Assassins. IGN actually had a ridiculous article comparing Madden '08 to APF2K8 and detailing why they thought Madden '08 was better (in their opinions way better). Any new 2K football game is gonna get blowback and have that much more difficult a hill to climb because of all these [additional] factors imo
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

      XBL gamertag: d0meBreaker22 (that's a zero)

No Franchise kills the replay value of the game. You couldnt edit rosters. You couldnt do much in customizing the game. There is no replay value in APF, unless you go online.

They could always use 'free' media to promote their game.

2K still have a gem in their hands, but I dont know they have any idea how to use it. Which is bad for us, unfortunately.

The decision not to include franchise had to be weighed against what they were trying to achieve. In retrospect, it would've made better sense to hold the game an additional year [or longer] to add some sort of franchise mode. But in waiting, there's also the risk of falling further behind. There's the very real possibility that they take the time to develop a franchise mode, it has one or two major flaws and people declare it a failure (which happens with more established games) - so the additional time taken is almost wasted. A franchise mode would've changed the entire scope of the game itself, as they seem to had made the decision that making the game online-focused would be easier to establish. We also have to weigh that this wasn't a full fledged effort on 2K's part; they didn't have a huge development team working on the game given the risky nature of what they were attempting. In the end 2K did make a lot of mistakes, but even if they had threaded the needle perfectly, it would still have been a longshot

I think 2k should do exactly what they are doing! And that's absolutely nothing. Let the football team break up and go work on something else productive.

I'm saying this from a Take - Two point of view, APF isn't profitable, it's a waste of budget dollars. Wouldn't want OJ to get sued again and don't want Michael Irvin and Deon Sanders in the game, so it's worthless. No one wants legends they want current pros. As talented as Visual Concepts is and as well grounded 2ksports developers are, this would be a waste of their time and a waste to gamers.

Focus on NBA, NHL, and MLB improvements and just forget about Football, let the community continue to upgrade 5 year old ESPN NFL 2k5 for their football fix from 2ksports.

If they did it the right way (tons of features and full customization mixed with good marketing). It would work. Period.

I am sure they will. I am still being told to this day that the football franchise is not dead. Its just not the right time for them.

I beleive they will make another football game without the NFL license, but its not going to be this year. This part is just all my opinion though.

It doesn't seem that there will be a new APF this year according to this post on the 2K Sports Forums...

Yep, looks like nothing. Time to get the Xport and get some 09 & 10 ESPN NFL2K5 rosters.
