I fianlly found this game and bought it (used) last September for $5 (abroad) and liked it so much! I played NFL 2K3 about 2 years ago and liked it and knew I had to get 2K5. I was starting to get better (though was mostly losing)...Too bad my PS2 died 2 months ago. This game is A-MUST for NFL fans. EA bought the exclusive NFL license, but that doesn't mean they bought the quality license.

2k5 was a next gen football game on last gen while Madden next gen is more of a last gen game.

Indeed! Too bad EA didn't hire the developers of 2K5 after the exclusive deal was signed - just imagine where Madden would be right now.

try doing a search i just uploaded the Most update roster with accurate depth charts, coaching schemes as well as greatly detailed players. I also added the new coaches...

I have not experienced any hic-ups or slow downs for 2k5 on the 360. Unlike NCAA 2006, where it is terribly slow.

As for online, you can play online, but with the 360 there is terrible lag. Original Xbox I believe is pretty lag free though.

When I first played espn 2k5, I didnt like it. Thats cause Madden had brain washed me. Either that or I just got older and understand how football really was, I dont know. Anyway, once i played espn a few eeks i was so addicted. I actually just bought a original xbox and that game again a few months back, because its still by far the best football game out.

By the way, someone was mentioning the exclusive deal, just read this on the 2ksports site


A February, 2007 e-mail from NFLPA executive Clay Walker to an NFLPA attorney makes this quite plain:

I was able to forge this deal with the [Pro Football Hall of Fame] that provides them with 400K per year (which is significantly below market rate) in exchange for the HOF player rights. EA owes me a huge favor because of that threat was enough to persuade Take Two to back off its plans, leaving EA as the only professional football videogame manufacturer out there.

...The per player price for most of these guys was tens of thousands of dollars less than what they were guaranteed by Take Two Interactive so it’s a real coup that we were able to pull this off so cheaply. You have to remember that EA’s total cost is only $200,000 per year. We know that Take Two offered six figure deals to several former NFL players so the total cost is millions below market prices...




Pretty funy isnt it. EA Sports for you.They dont sell games every year, they sell added features and updates that should have been in the game in the first place.

I decided to play 2k last night with all this talk from Ian Cummings about Madden 10. 2k5 is just light years ahead of Madden.I saw more animations in 1 quarter than I have seen in months of playing Madden.When you do replays and put the game in slow motion its just amazing.Tipped passes , WR streching out for passes.Last night I was kicking a field goal.A high snap.The kicker had to wait and he did till the ball was down.Defense almost blocked but I made it...barely.You cant roll your QB in the pocket for 20 seconds like you can in Madden.I just find it hard to believe EA will ever make a game on the level of this game.I just shake my head and wonder what a 2010 game would have been like.Man I wish 2k5 would make a game where you could customize everything

Its been said a million times before but in my opinion EA buying the exclusive rights to the NFL was the biggest kick in the nuts that sports gaming as a whole has ever experienced.

I remember first playing NFL 2K5 back in late 2004 and thinking "Wow these guys have absolutely raised the bar across the board, this kind of stuff is going to push sports gaming over the edge. The quality of the broadcast presentation, the subtlety in the gameplay, the personality that the game just glowed with. I just sat there with a huge grin on my face right through out my first hour with it."

And then the exclusive deal was made and EA destroyed it all. Then they really rubbed salt in the wound by releasing horribly stale Madden titles from then on out with little to no innovation. Its just an absolute joke that we have compare all the latest EA football games with a title from 5 years ago. A joke. I love the gumption that this new Madden development team are showing but they have a long way to go to make this title even resemble something worth while.

Yeah, I just bought this game last night after hearing about it for so many years. I am puzzled as to how good this game is vs the competition. Mind boggling really.

To the guy asking about 2k games vs EA games. Here has been my experience.

1. NBA 2k better than NBA Live (been that way for about 4 or 5 years, maybe more)

2. Hockey (I don't play)

3. Baseball: someone compared MLB 2k9 to MLB the SHow '09. The Show is produced by Sony, so that should be taken out of the argument. For record, the SHow has been a much better product than MLB 2k by far. Don't know about this year's version though since they haven't been released yet. I'm considering buying the show but have no interest in 2k9. The only thing stopping me from buying the Show is I don't have enough time to play, especially after buying NFL2k5 and AP2k8. BUt it is the best sports franchise ever. I would rate NBA 2k second in that category.

4. Boxing: This is one area where EA does really well. Fight Night is great, but is still a LITTLE arcade style. I'v never played or seen prizefighter though.

Madden 2010 is looking good by whats being said by Ian and what they're showing us - but it is not enough for me to buy it. Madden 2010 will have to assimilate whatever NFL 2K5 has before I even purchase the title. I am talking about the ability to substitute players like putting a Linebacker at Quarterback, etc.

Also, User Formation audibles - the best thing ever and ability to create your own Playbook (NFL 2K1 had create your own plays) but you get the point.

NFL 2K5 till I die. Save 60 dollars in the Recession :O)
