The Reason Why 2K will NEVER release a fully customizeable game

Once they release the game (to us), and the toolset for the modders, who is going to comeback every year to buy the latest edition, when the mod community is freely updating rosters, teams, graphics, and gameplay tweaks?

Still doesnt explain APF2k8, considering they didnt release another one, and if they did, the people reason people would buy it would have nothing to do with an updated roster or team

You can't make gameplay tweaks to a console game. (or graphics, teams, etc)

        Untrue.

MVP2005 (xbox) could be/can be modded and my understanding is that so was the Winning Eleven series.

but don't you need a modded system to play a modded game? how many people would that consist of.
          Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

New ruling may change that, we may see a fully customizable game because likeness is now considered art.

Interesting. We'll see what happens in the future with this. Even more intersting are those girls in your avi. Who, what event and where. Need the story on that pic

My dream is to wake up one morning and read on here that 2k is 3/4 done with a fully customizable football game.

                2k are you listening?

Yeah. I never understood this argument that devs don't want to make a game too good or no one would buy the new one?????????????????????????????

The old Maddens and 2k's were good and people kept buying them, same with many other sports series. If they're great games, we'll pay for new tweaks and touches and polish.

Look at FPS's how much different are they really? But if they're great people will buy them.

I'm guessing their sales numbers probably bear out that people won't keep buying published sports games enough to justify it. I think that sports titles did it to themselves when they started to regularly apply the year to their given name....now pressure on to produce each year, good or not (re: hockey titles).

With the manner in which they can distribute materials now, we'll see more of the apparent TW trend whereby everything will be done a la the server and maybe the discs will become obsolete. If you want new material, upgrades, tweaks, etc. You'll have to pay for it in lieu of the disc(s). But then again, the won't have to label titles in sequential annual order.
