I've always disliked how players could take any joe blow QB and turn him into a pro bowler. The awareness rating, which only matters when simming, should be more of a factor in my opinion. I have no idea why I thought of this, but I think it's a perfect solution.
The idea? Make the "threat indicator" in First Person mode directly related to the awareness rating. Rookie QB's with an awareness of 20 would literally have no warning except what you see on screen. It would simulate you flipping the stick around, panicked...happy feet, flinging the rock too soon, etc. Average quarterbacks can get you the normal threat indicator (although give it some "errors" sometimes...you think you feel somebody coming, but don't, etc). Then, you have the upper echelon QB's in the pocket...the Vicks, McNabbs, Gannons, etc. These guys not only have almost-flawless threat indicators, but an "escape indicator" as well. Maybe a different arrow pointing the direction of least resistance in the pocket.
I think that could make QB play as close to realistic as possible, and avoid somebody using a guy with 99str/99acc/50awr at the QB position. Of course, it would work for any player...whether it's a defensive back's ability to sense the ball, a WR's ability to find coverages, whatever. I just think QB would be the easiest to implement.
