Re: No in-game Dolby Digital???

If you gave me $700 I could come up with something that would destroy the Bose. But at $3000 there are so many different choices it would be best to go listen for yourself. The thing is, everyone is so accustomed to Bose, that they automatically think Bose is the best, so they go buy Bose, they don't listen to other brands.

Its sort of like Madden and ESPN. Everybody has heard of Madden, so they go out and buy Madden just because the name is Madden, even though it may be an inferior product.

I don't think Bose is terrible, but you just don't get what you pay for.

I really want something that sounds clear and loud... Like I said, the biggest issue with Bose was the voices.. Could not hear them if there was alot of noise going on..

Is there a system or components that you would suggest? Whats the biggest FACTOR??? Reciever or speakers?

            Re: No in-game Dolby Digital???

2K3 never had the DD logo on the box either.

People kept saying (in reviews) that it was in 5.1 (I know I got voice out of the center channel) but I don't know if that is the only factor.

I think true DD has left and right fields for the surround speakers which I'm not sure ESPN will.

If the BOX is NOT checked I'm assuming no DD.

            Maybe Pro-Logic 2?

BTW...just picked up a Logitech Z 680 unit to run Xbox and my PC through.

            SWEET!! sound for only $3 - $400

That's the problem with Bose, they don't really have a good center channel for dialogue, or a real subwoofer for the bass.

Speakers are obviously the biggest part, then come the electronics. I would start by looking at Paradigm, B&W, Deftech, PSB, Axiom, among others. For receivers I am partial to Harman Kardon, but other good ones are Marantz, Denon, Nad, and Yamaha.

If you are serious about getting a good system (which you can for about $700-$800, go to Home Theater Forum and read first. They have TONS of information on speakers, receivers, and everything else home theater. I've been a member there for almost 2 years and the information I have learned has been invaluable.

                  Hope this helps.

there is no question bose is great for the size and "invisibility" of its speakers but you give up better sound for that.

when i first got into the home theater hobby like 5 years ago I had a bose surround setup and thought it was the cat's *** because I thought bose was one of the best in the business. Only later as I got more into the hobby did I realize bose is a company built on good marketing and their speaker performance is inferior to other companies considering the price. I then upgraded to a definitive technology full 5.1 surround setup (now a 7.1 setup) although I did replace the def tech subwoofer with a SV Sub. That thing kicks *** and the bang for the buck performance of SV subs is insane. Anyway, the difference is huge and when I upgraded a few years ago I understood now why bose gets slammed by people who are into home theater/audio, etc.

There is a saying that goes "No highs, no lows, must be Bose" and that honestly is true when it comes to Bose. The little Bose cubes can't produce high frequencies and the bass module does not go low enough like a true sub woofer.

I hope you do not take offense to my "slam" of bose speakers. Again, I used to be a bose user so I feel I am in a position to give an honest opinion of their product and I also like to pass on info/knowledge I have obtained over the years to people who may not have it yet.

For 3 grand you can get some good complete systems that to be honest, will totally destroy the bose lifestyle setups.

I set Steve up with a system that was well under 3 grand and it will trounce Bose systems in sound quality.

As for the original question in the thread, the game is in 5.1. The box just has an error.

What IS DD exactly...and if the reviewers have stated that it is 5.1, why is it not checked?

anybody know what exactly 5.1 means...as I do not.
