espn football... i played it from 5 pm till 2 am this morning so i pretty much got the full scoop of the game in my head... first thing u will notice is the espn presentation and its just wow... wow... u hear how great it is but u wont appreciate it until u actually see it... berman is the man with his great commentary i was playing the niners with my giants and in the pre game show with berman he says niners and the footballlll giants nexttttt.. just like he does in real life... the graphics are top notch i mean the player models inproved big time and they looked great.. i played the game in san fran and it was an afternoon game and the shadows were casting on the field and it looked like a real t.v game.. if u watch espn sunday night football from the beggining u know what i am seeing with the game.. its the exact same thing... the commentary is great but i am wating for boomer and tom jackson or joe thiesman to take over next yr... i dont like generic guys... but they do give u great color commetary on key plays and situations and the challenge system which is great also... ok on nice run plays or passing plays that u get big yrsd u get the cut scenes of ur teammates on the sidelines clapping and taking smack like they cant stop us.. and the actual players are on the sideline not like ncaa where they have generic players on the sideline... i was driving to kick the winning fg and they showed matt bryant warming up to kick the winning fg that my friends just blew me away...there are some bugs in the game that i noticed and one that really pissed me of was that the niners were set to punt the ball away to me and i got away from the punt ang 3 niner players ran to the ball and tried to keep in at the 1 yrd line and the guy got it and dove at the one but he rolled into the endzone with the ball and they still put the ball at the one.. i hated that... another thing is the rosters are not up date and some rookies that are in madden are not in espn.. dave diehl the rookie guard for the giants who will start this yr is not in the game... but u can work on the rosters and create some players that are missing .. its only rookies so u can work on that.. some of the ratings are out of wack like terrel owens has 81 speed and thats not true.. so u have to up his speed but its still a bit frustratiing to have to do all that... u have to look around at the big time players and see what glitch u can find in their ratings.. the stadiums looks great and very detailed and u wont hurt ur eyes looking at them.. the diff in graphics with madden and espn is that espn look very real were as madden looks great but has a cartoonish look to it... the player equipment is much better in espn then in madden... the only draw back is that the blue color half sleeve that the giants wear like the will's they dont have that team color in espn.. so i had to put them black.. but they have abouot 8 diff styles of gloves and shoes... i will continue on the next post...

my espn review from a madden lover...
i have been a madden head for over 10 yrs and i love madden its my baby... i personally think that this yrs madden is the best of all the maddens from yrs past... its just a great game and the only bad thing that keeps it from being near damm perfect is that the game is starting to tend to the arcade fans who dont like the strategy of football and just want to pass and score all day... that is the one thing that madden does horrible... but enough abot madden this is a review of espn football... when i finiish i will give u my score for both games and the pros and cons for both...

Re: my espn review from a madden lover...
ok continuing my review...
ok well we covered the graphics and the presentation.. they are both 10 out of 10..
the first person mode i really did not care for so i just played it before i went to bed to see what it was aboout and its fun but not for playing a season or even a full game.. its intersetin cuz it puts u right in the middle of the field.. i was running with ricky williams agains the raiders and i got droped by romonawaski and he got up yelling u gonna feel pain today ricky i was laughing all the way to bed.. lol... it was fun and cool but on defense its a bit hard but i guess i will have to get use to it... but its not bad at all...
ok the franchise mode is pretty much the same as last yr and thats not a bad thing.. the one great thing about this yrs franchise that makes me happy is that u get e-mails from the front office on team needs and team performance and even on the standings and league leaders and the great power rankings tha start out the season... also the players that are hurt and the status for the next game.. very real... madden needs to inplement these things very fast...
the gameplay is were the money is at.. and that is what makes me love this game soooo much... a lot of people are going to tell u that the player movement is slow and jerky but u can speed up the gameplay speed on the option menu... but i was under the same inpresion last yr and it took me a few days to master the feel of the game cuz when u come from madden u have to adapt to espn... its football but its played at diff rate then madden.. in madden u can just pick up and play but in espn u have to learn to play football.. and for a hardcore football head like me thats what i want... give it time and the game will become second nature..
the crib mode is pretty useless to me and i dont even want to comment on that..
one great thing that i love alos is the mini camp drills... in madden u dont really get the feel for the game with them but in espn u do.. there is a bunch of things that the game teaches u to master and it puts u in the field and for example when u want to learn to run the football and stiff arm and juke or dive over the goal line then u go to the mini camp and it teaches u all these things and how to perform them.. just great feature/....
ok so the gameplay is top notch for example when u run the ball u follow ur blockers and when u are stuck behind ur o-lineman u can push him forward with one hand and then juke out of there like in real life... its not like in madden were its a pinball affect and it looks stupid to say the least.... the gang tackles are just sweet u can hold a guy by his feet and the other defender comes over and finishes the tackel... also getting sacks are easier this yr but very realistic... i got a gang tackle sack with strahan and holmes and each got a 1/2 of sack thats what madden is missin also.. aslo one thing of notice i did not see tattos or long hair options for the players like in madden so that kidn of sucks but no big deal... the tackels are just sweet in this game... they sound and look so real that u will think u are actually watching a real game.. the player faces are so real and detailed that u will also think u are watching a game on t.v/// when i got a td with tiki the cut scene showed strahand and shaun williams on the sidelines hugging and cherrring and they had no helments on and they looked scary real... when u challenge a play ur coach goes out on the field and throws the red flag.. real nice.. the defensive coverage and lb ----s are real nice and it makes u think of what to run the next play... u can also double team a defensive lineman that is killing ur tackle.... real nice... u can double a wr and a tight end... its a very sim game so if u expect to throw for 500 yrs and run for 200 yrs on all-pro setting then u dont want thigs game.... the game is just great and the fun factor will keep u playing for the next 8 monts.... when u play the game u feel like u are totaly watching a game on t.v the game flow very well and it will make u happy to play everyday... this game is worth the 50.00 and more.... my final score is 9 out 10
espn pros/cons
pros... great presentation. superb graphics. great gameplay.. great franchise mode...
cons... outdated rosters and some player ratings are totaly of but u can edit them... some plays that occur are false like the guy downing the ball at the one yrd line and he rolled into the endzone and still got the ball at the one..
madden is 8.9 out of 10
espn is 9.0 out of 10
i will always play madden cuz its my game but espn does it well in all areas and its the sim game to get if u are a hard core sim fan..

Re: my espn review from a madden lover...
Nice review, the only thing I will disagree on is the commentary. Keep this in mind the guys in the booth are voice actors so they both sit down for how many hours and record the audio until it's nailed. That's why it sounds so real and natural. It's near impossible to do that with the real guys Boomer, TJ, and Thiesman cause they are pros and have different schedules. So the likelyhood of them all showing up together to the recording studio would be very difficult and very expensive (they all have agents).
I hear what you're saying but Sega doesn't have EA's money. I'm glad to see a Maddenite enjoying ESPN 2K4.

Re: my espn review from a madden lover...
Good review, Infamous aka Stephensonmc. lol!
Looks like ESPN had to pry the props from your Maddenized fingers...only outscoring Madden by one-tenth...9.0 to 8.9. I guess thats a far as you'd go..being a Mod at MaddenMania and all. I know you don't want be impeached on the grounds of treachery and treason.
JUST KIDDING, Bro.
At least you gave you honest opinion despite your strong loyalty to the Madden series. For YOU to score ESPN higher is really saying something.Comment
