I had both Madden and 2K3 last year (XBox both), and settled on playing Madden because of the superior detail in franchise mode, more realistic sim engine, and more customizable settings (sliders, playbooks, etc).
I have Madden 2004 for the PC this year, with the idea I would get 2K4 for the XBox. But the main appeal to me are two things, playing online (which is easy and free on the PC for Madden), and playing franchise mode. With enough adjustments I can get the Franchise mode to be challenging, and produce realistic statistics in most every area. Plus, there are a lot of features to it this year, including the very cool training camp feature.
From what I can tell, the biggest features that are selling points for 2K4 are the spectacular presentation, and the smoother and more realistic animations and feel to the in-game gameplay.
For those out there like me, who find the sim and franchise components very important, what are your opinions on 2K4. If I switch, am I going to be disappointed? I've noticed the reviews go into this very little, which is a shame. I know that the franchise mode from 2K2 to 2K3 was a big leap, and I'm getting the impression that it is not the case from 2K3 to 2K4.
