Another impression from a Madden Fan

I have been Madden through and through since '91. I've tried other games since then (joe montana's, Gameday, ect, and the 2k series). I really enjoyed NFL 2k & 2k1 for my dreamcast when it came out, but I was still playing Madden at the time too. Then when Madden hit for the PS2 I've been much much happier with it than 2k2 - 2k3.

NCAA comes out this year. It's so frikking awesome with all the tweaks and fixes that they promised and deliverd on. My excitement builds for Madden just seeing how good NCAA played. Madden hits. Owner mode rocks! Gameplay, WTF!?! They said they'd have the same tweaks and fixes that NCAA had. OKAY! I'm frustrated with most games I play and it's a first with this series for me.

So my intrest increased with all the hype for ESPN 2k4. I was going to check this out no matter what though. The first game I play on All-Pro... it felt great and fun. There wasn't that frustration kicking in and going to mess with the sliders right off the bat like Madden. All the great things everyone had said about the game was living up to the praise.

Both games have some issues with small bugs or annoyances. This is always going to be a trend until the end of time and video games are no longer played since the sun sucked up our planet and killed us off.
(I'm only syched about seeing the sun so close)

Still the one big spot of praise I will give Madden it's props for is the Owner/Franchise mode. ESPN's isn't bad, but it doesn't feel like a tight package that madden delivers. The email system is great, but still sort of odd. ESPN's depth chart needs to be more mirrored to Madden since it'd be nice to have a spot for kick/putn return and 3d down backs - that'd be nice. It's a minor complaint, but is a legit issue. I'm sure others have other problems, but that will go away if ESPN works on the franchise apsect of their game next year and tries to do an owner mode like Madden and can succed on getting it to the same level as EA's game. If they can do that Madden will be the one that gets the rent next year.

As stupid as the crib mode appeared to be, it's not so bad after all and I totally perfer this over the madden cards now that I've gotten into it.

I saw another post where someone questioned a Madden-ite of if it was hard to get into ESPN. For me, not at all. I've got the PS2 version and the controls are almost identical to Madden's. The play call screen is super nice compared to their old menu... I've always liked that.

It's hard for me to believe that I actually like ESPN's gampely over Madden this year.

ANYONE that loves football and has not tried ESPN this year... do yourself a favor and give it a rent because this game is extremely well done.

I would have gone into detail, but there was no point since there's 100 other post that would have said it better.

    Thanks for reading fellow OSers!

Im also a life long Madden Fan, who kinda liked 2k3 last year other then the super dive tackles, but still love Madden. However this year MAdden just seem to have the same gameplay as 2000.

But the best part about ESPN is that ratings matter, and the Big time players play like big time players, unlike Madden. And Weight matter too.

I was a Madden player the past couple years, and last year I was thinking about getting NFL2k3, but after reading some reviews about the game, I decided to go back to Madden. This year, I read some great things about ESPN Football, and decided that Madden was becoming....frustrating to play at times, so I bought ESPN this year.

Well, I'm just impressed with all the little details that ESPN has. Mainly the gameplay elements that impressed me the most. I mean, the first time I saw a guy SLIP in the snow (and lose his man for a TD), it seems like such a little thing, but to me, that just adds to the immersion.

Oh, and the weekly NFL Primetime, while a bit glitchy (Like Brett Favre throwing left handed), is still pretty impressive.
