Will VC Make use of the PS2 Hardrive Due out next Spring??

The SonyPS2 Hardrive is Due out Next spring...march or april. Will VC utilize its power and provide some off the goodies that Xbox users like downloadble music and overall better graphical and sound quality?

Real in-game highlights would be possible then ..both at halftime and in the NFL primetime footage.

    What do guys think?

Probably, but by the time companies really get a chance to utulize this device to its full power, PS3 will be out.

That would be great to use that stuff for the PS2...

Any word on how much it will cost?

I read it's going to be $99 and have Final Fantasy XI on the drive. But it'll be an online-only game, and you have to pay a sub to play ($12.95 a month! )

But that's really interesting Kanobi - I think it'd be cool if they used it to save highlights, so that they could be part of the presentation during the game. And getting a few of the bells and whistles XBox'rs have been enjoying wouldn't hurt. But like someone else mentioned, it may be a little too late in the PS2's life cycle to truly take advantage of it. I would think developers wouldn't be able to fully take advantage of it until year 2 of it's release, and by then all the next gen consoles will be coming out. I'm sure most if not all developers would be placing most of their resources towards developing for the new systems.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

I'd like to see all games, especially sports games, support the HDD. May even make online franchises possible.

However, VC needs to fix a lot of basic things before working on supporting a peripheral which a relative few may actually buy.

ESPN NFL on PS2 needs things like:

                      1. Better, more reliable servers and better network performance.

                      2. Independent cameras.

                      3. Ability to use updated rosters online.

                      4. Ability to use saved audibles online (whether they have to make custom playbooks online or do it some other way to get rid of the divergence errors).

                      5. Buddy lists for finding gamers who aren't in the lobbies.

I doubt many games will be developed that absolutely require the HDD - since it will always be a minority of PS2 owners who buy the peripheral.

So since developers will have two types of PS2 owners - those with and those without the HDD - they will have to develop for both. Meaning if they include a feature in future sports games that saves highlight data to the HDD - they will also have to develop for those without that accessory. Then it's a matter of deciding if it is worth development time to support the HDD at all.
