    Injury question

I'm in the middle of my first season of franchise and since it is my first time (couldn't get into it in 2k3) I'm not familiar with some of the more subtle things.

I just finished week 8 with my Saints franchise and injuries are taking a toll. I'm screwed because the trade deadline is gone and BOTH of my best DE, Charles Grant and Darren Howard are out for extended period of time. Is there no way to replace them on the depth chart? I've got to substitutions and since Willie Whitehead is my only other DE on the roster, it will not let me set up anybody in their places. Is there anything I am missing or am I stuck with the CPU automatically rotating LBs in at DE during the game seemingly every play?

I know this seems obvious, but you didn't address it in your question:
    - Do you have any open roster slots and payroll, so that you can claim a DE Free agent for a one year contract?

Yes I do, i have a couple of spots actually. But, where do I go to pick up a free agent? I have looked everywhere. It's week 8 so trades are out of the picture, but I swear I went from menu to menu and couldn't find a way to pick up a free agent.

                Go to the front office,
                Then go to contracts,
Scroll left or right, go through all the teams and eventually you'll find the free agents.

                      Re: Injury question

I believe it's in the "Contracts" menu.
From there you cycle through the teams, (as all the teams and Free Agents) are there.
Just shuffle through the alphabetical listing of teams until you run into the Free Agents.
Free Agents should be listed after the Vikings and before the 49ers.

Click on the free agent you wish to sign and it asks if you want to begin to negotiate a contract with that free agent.
