Wanna stop the Run? Try this...

Go into practice, turn off the A.I. play calling. On Offense pick a team with a stud for a back. On defense pick the team you always play with. Go to were you can switch teams and choose a run play that gives you problems, switch back to defense, pick and try to find a defensive set that stops or CONTAINS this run. Do this till you find your self quite adept at stopping or CONTAINING the run. Notice the emphasis on contain, I find that to much effort is spent on stopping the run at the line of scrimmage ala blitzing. Blitzer runs in misses tackle = big gain. Instead try guess what direction the back wil go and pick a defense that places a defender in the area the runner will go to. This way you get the LB's CB's going toward the runner from different angles. Runner may break one tackle but gets hit with another sometime resulting in fumbles. Find plays that give only 2-3 yards run yards, it's ok remember you have 4 downs to do this. You might and will get a few stops, all you have to do is Practice in this form till you get good at it.

yeah it's smart, i mean the practice mode is there for exactly this reason. i learned how to play better position with my FS this way during pass situations (set it to 20 yards needed for the offense).

pretty sweet that you can adjust the difficulty level in practice as well. but the best part is that you learn your defensive play book really quick.

To stop the run you must stagger your defense. if you shift your line to the strong side, you must shift your linebackser the way of the weak side and use the mlb to spy. i use the niners so i am blessed with some fast lbs. but it works. also bring your db's up to bump n run coverage. the more yards you leave between them and the receiver means you'll have to make that up when trying to get in for the tackle. that can be a difference between the rb getting 3 and 8 if your cb and safteies are too far back.

Will this reduce the 30 broken tackles per game by the CPU?

Exactly right Illmatic! I was trying to describe how to stop the run in another thread but the word "stagger" says it all. I said balance the line with the lb's. I think the run stopping problem people are having is way over blown. I played against the bucs (I am the rams) alstott had 18 rushes for 91 yrds the longest play he had was a 20yd run, that's it! It was amazing because like in real football you have to make him run east to west as opposed to north and south. I just kept hitting with a wave of defenders, it was a thing of beauty!
