What is the difference between NFL 2k4 and NFL 2k5?

Some say that the DB AI is 'better' in 2k4. Is this true, and what are the other gameplay differences between the two games?

NFL 2k3 had about a dozen extra ratings that arent found in 2k4 or 2k5. does anyone know how they worked? for example, there is no aggression rating in nfl 2k3 but there are "vison" and "intelligence" ratings for all positions, as well as upper body and lower body strength.

Good list. I haven't played either of these games in a few years, and I am thinking of going back(still have them and Xbox1). The DB play is what really has me thinking of 2K4.....the fade routes were money in 2K5.

2K5 had some better presentation though....video at halftime instead of still shots.

The RB's were overpowered in 2K4...but that was one of the few games where the CPU running game was scary...and you couldn't sit back in Nickle or Dime and still stuff the run. That part was cool.

2K4 often built a better QB pocket as well.

I also loved the 2K4 menu screens, with the SportsCenter theme and such.

In NFL 2K4, you can find Walter Payton in the 1985 Bears with his actual name and profile picture. Same with Taylor in the 1986 and 1990 Giants. Also, since the game was made by Sega, characters from many Sega games appear as unlockable free agents. There aren't any Sonic characters in 2K4 sadly AFAIK.

It's not just the DB AI, the AI in 2k4 is better across the board. On the gameplay side the biggest difference is in the speed. 2K4 doesn't have much momentum, which makes it a significantly faster playing game. Receivers catch a lot better in 2k4 as well.

Kick off returns were too easy in 2k4 (common to get out past the 40)....and too hard in 2K5 (tough to get much past the 20) from what I recall.

I'd say running the ball in general was too easy in 2k4. Not only was there no momentum but it was a lot easier to break tackles on top of it.

Less CPU controlled nonsense. Like when your RB stutter steps on your controlled player.
Overall much more control of the game in 2k4… which people may call arcade-style but it’s a video game. Being able to manipulate the game does not make it less sim. Easier to manually catch. Out routes are easier, less throwing out of bounds
2k4 is a better game as far as playability.
