Yep, that could indeed happen in Madden. Some retired players would also become coaches. Now, the issue I had with this was that most of the times, the first year these retired players became available they would be hired as head coaches.

Re: Where\'s the Franchise Q&A?
Madden's franchise was kinda unrealistic though because no matter how many times you got fired you could still find a head coaching job. I like how in ESPN, if you don't succeed....it's over. Keeps you on your toes. However, I think other coaches need to be hired and fired."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Yeah thats kinda cool but that's not realistic either. You may want to resign from your current squad and move-on to another ...maybe in search of a greater challenge IN that current Franchise file but you can't. They prolly just made it that way because none of the other coaches were being fired so there were no openings avaliable. That's pretty weak IMO. By doing this they're hurting the depth and replayability. ...especially when theres no coach movement amongst cpu teams..that's not realistic by any stretch of the imagination.
It would have been cool to go to another team...work with new players, sign some of my old vets that I developed through weekly prep, etc. Hell, VC could have added assistant coaches with Attributes...even if they're Fake like in ESPN College Hoops it would have still added some depth and made things alot more realistic.
C'mon VC, I know you guys are reluctant to copy EA but sh*T....some stuff EA has done is just basic common sense ....Franchise Mode fundamentals that you really shouldn't avoid. Imagine how much deeper Weekly Prep would be if you Had Assistant Coaches with specific attributes that affected Progression...Imagine how much your system would be hurt by some Team with a HC opening courted one of your Valued assistants with a Montsrous Offer. Thats DEPTH man. They need to add this next yr without a doubt.Comment

Thing is, this is in ESPN NBA and MLB so I guess they don't want there NFL series franchise mode to be too much like Madden's."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. Read my post again. Its been edited and says that Madden has done some really basiac fundamental things that VC really shouldn't avoid if they want to further enhance Franchiose Mode.
By them being so caught up in not copying Madden they've somewhat hindered themselves from making greater progress in the Franchise Mode area. Weekly Prep is great But could have been even better if they had other fundmental aspects down.Comment

Kanobi...are you saying that in Madden you could have assistant coaches who, after a couple years, would get swept away to another team that would hire them as a head coach?
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
YES! and you might even have to Face them down the road! That sh*t is TIGHT! Plus you could promote your current assistants to HC if you want...or a special teams coach to a coordinator, etc.
All the Coaches even Profiles with the past sucess on other teams, how many Super Bowls they've won, and the pevious coaching position they've held.. They all have Attributes...MOT (motivation)ETH (work Ethic), CHM(Chemistry), KNO(Knowledge) and then during the hiring process you'll see their attributes by position (qb, rb, wr, ol, dt, de, etc) so you'll see which positions they help improve the most.
So basically the more success you have as a team...the more other teams will come after your assistants and it's really diffcult to keep em. You'll also see Former head Coaches get demoted to Coordinator with other teams ala Dave Campo, Greg Williams, etc...so theres CONTINUOUS change. The league is always changing in Madden...not just Players via free agency but the Coaching staffs you face as well.
HOPEFULLY, VC tries to get something like this in 2k6. IMO it would make for a KILLER franchise Mode because of the effect it'd have on weekly prep .Comment
