Re: ESPN IGN Top 10 Comparison with EA Top 10

Breaking it down by the numbers:

ESPN's Celebrities vs Madden's NFL athletes fighting for a spot in the Madden Bowl each year...sadly I can't see much appeal in either of these and if these where the only new feature in the games I doubt anyone would be calling them "the best". PUSH

ESPN's Online Rosters vs Madden's finally getting its act online. Two long awaited features from both companies, unfortunatly EA's a few steps behind on this one. ADVANTAGE ESPN

ESPN's Graphics vs Madden's Graphics. Madden's aging engine gets a boost in the arm each year but this year VC pulls out the stops to rework the Xbox engine from the 'ground up'. Sure, VC probably has as much spin on that as a Venus William's serve but screen shots tell the tale. ADVANTAGE ESPN

ESPN's Celebrations vs Madden's Create a Fan. This one is up in the air and I guess it is all going to depend on where you like your tuanting done, from the stands or from the end zone. PUSH

ESPN Presentation vs Madden's Storyline Mode. By all rights I have heard a lot of good stuff about the Tony Bruno radio show in Madden but that isn't enough to shake the foundation VC has built around the ESPN moniker. Odds of Madden outshining ESPN in this area are about as good as the Blue Jays odds of shaking up the AL East. ADVANTAGE ESPN

ESPN's New Moves vs Madden's New Defensive Features. Well, if EA's telling the truth then maybe you can finally play a Madden game over 3 minutes where the scores do not escalate into the 60's. ESPN didn't sit on its laurals either and promise all sorts of new offensive and defensive moves...and hopefully a defensive weapon to stop the 80 yard breakaway run. PUSH.

ESPN's Classic Games vs Madden's Biggest Dyntasty in Sports Video Game History. At first I thought EA was talking about their franchise mode...but they aren't. They are talking about the fact they have been the #1 selling game for the past 15 years. Well, that sounds like a blow hard reason to list as a 'feature' - btw who is the sports leader for the past 25 years..could it be ESPN. But instead of bragging VC just serves up a heaping pile of classic games for everyone to relive. ADVANTAGE ESPN

ESPN's Custom Music vs. Madden's Cover Athlete Ray Lewis. Well in a knife fight I give the nod to Ray Lewis over Sugar Ray; but for my money, I'll get more joy out of hearing Queen's "We Will Rock You" after a TD than I will sleeping next to my Ray Lewis box. ADVANTAGE ESPN

ESPN's VIP vs Madden's Win $50,000 for playing the Madden Challenge. Well I guess for one guy Madden will OWN on this one. For the rest of us it's ESPN and the chance to play friends even when they aren't around. ADVANTAGE ESPN

ESPN's Weekly Game Preparation vs. Madden's Training Camp. ESPN is trying to claw its way to the top in every area but this my just be a little too much micro-management to be enjoyable for some. Not that I was ever realy fond of camp but if anyone knows how to add franchise building features to a game it's EA...just don't bring up MVP. Just so I don't sound biased  ADVANTAGE EA.

    WINNER ESPN

To be fair it isn't easy comparing a top 10 list from a game review site like IGN (ESPN) with a top 10 list from a game's own developer (EA). However, when I looked at IGN for Madden's list I discoved IGN only did TOP 5 lists for each game....but somehow found double the love for ESPN

BIG WINNER - Everyone who loves football video games.
