wtf? is there any way to stop QB running?

i played a few games online tonight, and the qb scrambling is a joke. i was getting lit up by QB's from A-Z. vick, mcnabb, boller, BRAD JOHNSON, rex grossman, you name it they were ripping off 10-20 yards more than a few times. i would send blitzes and crowd the middle and cover the other side myself, but it doesn't matter, the QB's have too much speed and they are at full acceleration from the get-go. i looked for a QB spy play, but i can't find one. i also tried to defensive hot route my guy to QB spy, but i must be doing something wrong because it never works (i can get all other defensive hot route plays to work).

my question is, are there any spy plays in this game? blitzing does me no good because i have to blitz from BOTH sides to be completely sure my opponent wont scramble, but that means im taking 2 guys out of coverage and eventually he will find an open spot. anyone have a solution to this? i know you should "Just play people you know" who dont do cheesy stuff like this, but at the same time if a play breaks down who is going to skip free yardage that you can easily get scrambling? i'd accept this kind of play from mike vick or someone like that, but when brad johnson is burning you for a 20 yard scamper then something is wrong.

there is the CB blitz that sends BOTH corners(not sure if this works well(because last year they didn't use the best angle(too much inside)) but it is worth an experiment)

You want to at least have 1 or 2 blitzes that effectively sends a blitz right into the running lane of a human scrambling QB for one side of the field. - Then you will need to think of a way that you can manually control a different defender to handle the other side of the field. It is a guessing game because it will leave you a bit more exposed if you don't pressure the qb enough with the blitz.

                other tips
                ---------
contain the qb runs and keep him in the middle - be sure to hit the QB hard with a couple of defenders- they want to get to sideline and/or slide - because this game punishes qb ballcarriers with fumbles and injuries at a fairly high rate

shut em down the first couple drives of the 1st half and 2nd half. Appear to be able to stop the QBrun and you opponent may just shy away from it.

use your brain , you should have a feeling about what situations the guy likes to try to get some yards with the qb run and that is the time for you blitz and control plays

some guys run better to one side

faking/'showing' a blitz to the side that you don't want the qb to go for the first count of a play, with a manual controlled defender is another weopon you have(most qb runs are decided quickly based on a players 'read' of the field)

if it gets real bad or you are playing against a probable runner - adjust , even to the point of taking out (or moving inside) your slower players and replacing them with speedy defenders , even if it is for certain packages(say your ROLB is good but slow - you may want him out in favor of even a backup strong safety (for example in the nickleD) and maybe move the ROLB to MLB depending on the rest of your team , depending on how much a problem the running really is)

good luck its not easy against a good player , at least you can injure them and they likely will not have great reads in the passing game if they are watching the blocks for a qb run , so there are some pros and cons

Re: wtf? is there any way to stop QB running?

those are good tips, but i tried them last night with only mild success. i can manually shut down one side of the field, but often times i will send a blitz from the other, and he will get around my blitzer, or he will scramble to my side, and if i go after him he will just throw over the middle or deep to a man whose one on one (i'm the help deep) for a completion.

it's not a matter of CAN it be shut down, it's a matter of it should not be this hard to shut down a bum QB like brad johnson or jake del homme from running all over you. i hope VC reveals the true way to call a QB spy, i could really use that right about now...

also, anyone try zones against running qb's? i've tried a few, but my guys in a zone just stay exactly where they are until the qb officially crosses the line of scrimage, then they go after him and of course it's too late at that point.

2 hard zones tend to put an end to qb scrambling, especially if you control your fastest dlinemen to shadow the QB as well. After you slow them down once or twice they will try something else.

I can't believe there is any QB spy...and the audible doesn't work. I hope there is a patch soon...
