Played it for a bit, for what it is, it isn't that bad. Have the same TD celebrations and animations as Madden. Kicking meter is more challenging than Madden. Playing calling screen have some elements of Madden from the early 1990s. Passing game is pretty solid. Running game is okay. Is it a threat to Madden ? No. Is it fun ? Yes.👍 2Comment

Tried this game out yesterday. My expectations were low, but even trying to be as charitable as possible, I hated my time with this game. There are way too many football issues to list, the simple act of making a player move feels incredibly stiff, and the entire experience feels pretty dull. The vibe I get is NFL GameDay 2000 with Unreal Engine graphics.
Honestly, this game might compare unfavorably to NFL GameDay 2000, speaking to gameplay, game design, and authenticity. For example, the playbooks are sparse and incomplete. I don't think you should call your game "Maximum Football" if Cover 3 Sky, a spot-drop zone coverage as old as the sport itself, is nowhere to be found on the defensive call sheet. I don't get the impression that anyone who understands how football works was listened to when implementing the on-field X's and O's, which is just entirely unacceptable for a game positioning itself as a community-driven legitimate alternative to the licensed football video game options available on consoles.
I'm sure the player and team customization suite is nice, I'm gonna guess Dynasty mode is highly flexible and reasonably robust, and it looks like the in-game store has plenty of cosmetics it wants you to buy, but none of that matters if the gridiron football is dog water. Don't bother.Last edited by Hooe; 06-18-2025, 07:07 PM.👍 1Comment

Just played it for a bit, honestly, it's not very good.
IMO if we're strictly talking about the on field gameplay then it's borderline unplayable to me, any anyone who's ever complained about the gameplay in madden in the last 15 years should not like this game at all.
I'd rather just boot up an emulator and play any ps3 madden than this.Comment

I played it a year ago when it was so much worse than this iteration. Just imagine that the ball would fly 50 yards downfield inexplicably from random tackles, and the ball in the air was sometimes flying in stop motion...but hey at least they kept at it.Comment

💯 agree with this assessment. Of the indies I prefer Axis for coach mode purposes and franchise even though I’d rather be playing a college game with recruiting.
just need to determine if it’s worth the 20 bucks for the unlimited dynasty option or if makes more sense to just play what I can and hopefully earn tickets to keep the dynasty going.

The gameplay obviously has a long way to go to catchup to EA's football games, but in spite of all its glaring flaws, I'm still having a lot of fun with the Ultimate Team online ranked mode. The simplified controls + chaotic and arcadey pace make it feel like an NFL GameDay or NFL Quarterback Club probably would if those were still being made.
Maybe my blockers' ratings just suck, but they all seem to get confused rather easily, so the META online is blitzing 5 or 6 guys on defense, then running for your life with a dual threat QB on offense. Running right into the blitz can work, too, if you have more of a smashmouth offensive lineup.
Some quick teambuilding tips for anyone who decides to give the Ultimate Team mode a try:
1) Finishing the weekly & season challenge goals is the fastest way to progress
2) Don't buy any of the store packs aside from the 1,000 Coin ones, for the purpose of "feeding" the cheap common cards into your star players to level them up
3) "Feeding" cards with similar positions and archetypes will yield the most training XP
4) Save your Max Stacks currency until you have enough to buy the 1,000 Stacks premium season pass
Keeping the online modes free and fully playable without an Xbox Live subscription was definitely a smart move, as I haven't had to wait longer than 2 or 3 minutes to find a game, and only had a repeat opponent once in 20+ matchups.
I know the bigwigs at this company are currently fighting through some serious debt issues, which is why they rushed this game out onto PS5 in such a buggy, clearly unfinished state, just to try and raise some more revenue outside of STEAM's and Xbox's Early Access programs, but I hope that they'll be able to keep the lights on for at least another year, just to see how much more they can improve their product. It's already the most promising polygonal project that's come out since Natural Motion gave up on Backbreaker.
But at the moment, Maximum Football basically has PS3 gameplay (circa Madden 11 to Madden 13) with PS5 graphics.Last edited by jyoung; 07-05-2025, 11:21 PM.👍 1Comment
