    Re: Looking for Football sim.

I'm trying to learn to call plays. So far I'm doing just OK, but its only been a week. The FOF forum site has some good tips to help under stand the depth of the game, but I can use any help or tips that I can get from long time players. The more I play the better I understand my players and how best to used them. If anyone would like to help with tips I'm all open.
I can uses a good defensive setting if anyone can help.

      Re: Looking for Football sim.

FOF 2007 is pretty hard to beat. Solid game. I have a single player career where I replaced the worst team (Raiders) with a created hometown team. I also started alternating draft classes; one CPU generated (which is very good, get your booms/busts, injury prone but uber talented, late steals, etc., drafting is awesome), and then one NFL historical (you can download real historical draft classes from the FOF central website). I started in like 1970-ish and just had the 1983 draft class. Never won a Superbowl yet but have had major QB problems all along. Just had my best season at 15-1 behind rookie QB Dan Marino, lost in the Divisional round.

I love all the stat tracking, etc. It's fun to get a guy you like (esp. from a CPU generated draft class) and run him for years, then compare him to the guys 10 years prior and 10 years later that you liked just as much. I had one CB that was Deion-Sanders like.. shut-down.. I drafted this guy 2 or 3 overall.. But then he started to develop injury problems in his 3rd season.. Had to trade him in his 5th season right in his prime because i saw where it was going. Sure enough he spent the majority of his next 3 seasons on IR and fell off the map.

I do hope that one day Madden, etc., can replicate player development, drafting, etc., that FOF has.

Agreed. My football gaming would be complete and I would never need another sports game again.

It seems though that PFS has the potential to do just that. Constant updates and it keeps getting better and better. Hopefully the career mode will get deeper just like it is in OOTP and FM.

Great customization abilities/can create a league as big or small as you want with any teams you want...but totally crappy gameplay. Don't get it.

I want to get FOF 2007, but I HATE the UI and I love the UI for PFS, it feels updated and more fresh. I downloaded both demos, I have some questions. Can you import player pictures for FOF 2007? I tried to get the Stelmack utility to work with FOF 2007, but I couldn't get it to work. Does it work with the current version on windows 7?

I see the FOF guys have a college version but it seems quite outdated.

Are there any college football sims that have the in depth recruiting and such like they have with college basketball sims?

                        Re: Looking for Football sim.

Well I have Maximum Fb, Madden 04/08 Pc. Fb Pro 98 and 99.
Yes You can do alot with Max Fb but yes the gameplay is not good.
I have tried over and over with Fb Pro99. I even had it running pretty good and was able to edit the rosters and messed with the Plays, but for some reason it only lasts a day or 2 then it screws up.. SO I am done with it. Madden 04 is the best of madden. Unlike the others it will play the backup HB's when simming. Problem with madden is it wont let you use homemade playbooks with simming and the gameplay is silly at times..
Madden 08 is Nice to look at I guess, but its limited..
as for FB Pro 98 sure the grafics are not great.. BUT what Do You want a Game that plays REAL and SIMS REAL or Good Looks??
I am using the VPNFL Classic Rosters and making my own leagues.. Using GNFL Profiles and Playbooks.. The game does give up alot of sacks, BUT I figured out how to fix that.. Lower the AC and SPD of the Deff. Linemen.. Sacks cut in Half... Sad after all these years Fb Pro 98 is the BEST of them all.. Sad because this is 2010 and we should playing games 10 times better than we have.. But I got to say FB PRO98 Aint Bad!!!

I appreciate the good comments for PFS. I highly suggest simming through a couple seasons using the demo. I think you'll like how easy it is to use, and how quick and accurate the game engine is.

There are also several online leagues looking for owners, so once you get the hang of things you can test yourself against real people.

PFS is the best one for the pro game.

If you're looking for college check out BBCF. We even have an online league over on Sports Gaming Network that is mostly comprised of OS posters. The Bowl Bound College Football thread is on the first page of this sub forum for more information.
