I still have two copies of 2k5 myself, and APF2k8. I even popped both games back in the weekend prior to Madden 11's release and enjoyed them both. But I have to admit, after playing 2k5 all these years, it is finally showing it's age, but only in the sense to me that it just feels tired.

2k5 still looks incredible for it's age, and it's animation system and fluidity still amazes me. It still can't be matched for presentation, and it has great commentary and a very strong user base to keep it's rosters updated.

But Madden is finally catching up with it...it took THIS long, but it's very nearly there. The gameplay has come a LONG way, now they need to re-vamp franchise and Superstar modes, and pump up the presentation and they are there.

I played Madden 10 last year and never touched 2k5, for the first time in years. The only reason I'll pop in 2k5 these days is to enjoy the ESPN-ness of it's presentation (perfection) and to keep my old franchise going lol.

Bottom line for me is that Madden 10 and now 11 are very good games; not perfect, but leagues better than Madden 09 (cringe). In fact, they are the best Madden games I've ever enjoyed. 2k5 still holds the edge for overall presentation and fluidity, but Madden's gameplay and updated looks win out for me.

It's my hope the Madden team continues to look at 2k5 and MLB: The Show for inspiration to deliver a great all-around experience.
This post is pretty much exactly how I feel as well.

2k5 is still overall the most complete football game but is certainly showing its age after 6 years and probably 600+ games I've played. It doesn't look very good on a nice t.v. either.I really don't want to play a last-gen game anymore when there are at least good next-gen football games out, which I consider Madden 11 as being.

I've made community rosters for 2k5 for a couple of years but I can really see the downloads going down the past year and even more so now. When Roger Goodell gets his way with the 18 game schedule next year 2k5 will be pretty much obsolete for new rosters because there's no way to do a proper schedule for it.We have to hope Madden continues to improve.

I really tried to like Backbreaker but there's too much going against it(including the patch which help major problems but killed what WAS good).Hopefully a sequel will improve the game and include what's needed to make a good football game.

I seriously say this after cracking open the latest iteration of Madden when it first comes out ever since 2k couldn't make football games. "Just make the franchise and presentation a priority next year and things will be perfect" yet it absolutely never happens. They'll touch it up, throw in a new commentator, make a half-done weekly wrap-up show and that's about as close as they'll get to it. Otherwise it's still typical Madden, "This year: A revamped locomotion engine and Gameplanning!" (that's what it's called right?).

But as I've said before I've come to terms with the fact that I'll just never be pleased with Madden football. They'll always be 2 different games to me and my preference falls too hard for 2k's gameplay and presentation.

On another note, how good would an NFL 2k12 (or whenever the possibility becomes available) really be? I mean, APF 2k8 was pretty great gameplay wise with its own hiccups, yet no franchise at all!? But they probably didn't spend every waking second developing another football title since 2k5 I suppose so maybe the cycle wasn't any longer than usual? And perhaps all they're resources were tapped out on obtaining all those player rights for likenesses and whatnot? Just begging the question really. Still, they could have a trailer that just says, "NFL 2K12" and that's it till release and I'd still have that thing reserved.

No offense, and I'm sure you weren't trying to start something, but this is a great example of a thread that should be closed immediately. If this was in the Madden forum, it would have been closed and you'd be banned. Whats up with the double standard?

Madden 11 looks better but playing NFL 2k5 feels better. When I play 2k football is just an deeper experience maybe the engine is still better in 2k than in Madden.

LMAO!!! You have a long way to go. Dont go in the Madden section talking about 2k5, dont go into the 2k5 section talking about madden, but in the Football(other) its the place to do it. Aside from that if you actually read the thread you will see it was closed, then reopened and moved from the 2k5 section. Oh and the Op was banned for starting this in the 2k5 section...... hows that for a double standard?

NFL2k5 out the box is equal to Madden but with Finn Editor it becomes one of the best sport games ever. When I using Finns editor I was able to solve the problems out of the box and play a quality sim football game.

This is always a debate, but to me it still isn't even close. 2k5 all the way with everything except that Madden looks prettier. Also, 2k4 is a better playing game then Madden 11.
