Re: Can we make our own game?
Never even a jet engine orderedI was just curious if there happened to be a team of game makers floating around these forums that could be assembled. I have no idea how to make a game, especially for PS3/X.
Just thought it would be interesting if there happened to be everything needed for a team right under our noses and we just never realized it.Comment

Re: Can we make our own game?
I'm not a programmer but I can do CAD work. I'm a Mechanical Engineer and currently working on building a 3D laser scanner to be able to scan real world objects and import them into CAD programs and then could be used in video games. The scanner wouldn't be large enough to scan stadiums but possibly helmets, facemasks, cleats, and other equipment.
I have no problem helping out where possible as long as some of my ideas make it on the list.Comment

Re: Can we make our own game?
Here are my ideas for a football game. My ideas are mostly for off the field which I feel can make or break a football video game.
Basically make EVERYTHING customizable from leagues to conferences/divisions, teams, rosters, rules.
A few things that aren't in the file I want in a game are:
-First names, last names, name suffix to be announced.
-Helmets to come off during the biggest hits.
Everything else is in the file. Hope it's easy to understand and I welcome any feedback.
Also if you we are going to do this it really needs to start out on PC or else you will be spending a lot of money before getting any return on investment which I doubt most people on this forum are willing to drop that much money into a game we aren't even sure will be a big enough hit.Last edited by dlane2155; 10-28-2012, 08:51 AM. Re: Can we make our own game?
I think you should go to the moderators and ask them if you can get a poll of who wants to see one made, then if its unanimous then ask for anyone who would be unselfish enough to come together to make something special that would be non profit. I believe this is a great idea and think you should not give up on seeing it through. You already have one volunteer who said he does code, find out everything that you would need to see it through, my 3bitz.
Who said anything about non-profit and volunteering? I believe that if a football game was made, and made well, that you would not need the NFL license. For those that play franchises, it's only a few years before you have all kinds of fictional NFL players anyway. Does that make the game any less fun? Nope.
That's why I mentioned investors$$ We're not working for free

Re: Can we make our own game?
I say figure out who you will need on the team based on jobs. Then once you have that figured out I would say find out how much it would cost to pay them. Once you have that figured out you need to go over everyones ideas (features) on the team for what they want in the game.
Ask how long it will take to do each persons tasks. Then give them deadlines as a project manager. If anything is too difficult you may have to scrap an idea or tone it down.
Create a presentation trailer with your graphics people. This can be done strictly as CGI. Some cool stuff here and be sure to include features you are 100% sure will be in the game here. If its a gameplay feature show it in your trailer. If its not gameplay related just list it. This will create a buzz about your game.
Now get funding using kickstarter or a similiar site. You should know how much money everything will cost before actually asking for people to invest. Some of your rewards could be simple things like a 8x10 poster at $10, Mouse Pad $25, etc., etc.
Don't forget to create a web page with a forum at some point. Also keep everyone on task by weekly reports of progress being submitted to project manager. Don't lose track of investment total and continue to promote when you can.
You will probably need a business name.

Do you know how hard that would be? I read your attached item, and it would AT LEAST take a few years to make. Maybe cut down on all the teams? It could be the high school to college to professional, but not all those different leagues. Maybe an FCS. Maybe the AFL, but no more than that.Comment

The game makers wouldn't actually create any teams... Maybe just a fictional league. But have the ability for the user/community to create any team or league they want. The game makers wouldn't need to create 500 teams or anything like that... they would just have to program it to be very customizable.Comment

Re: Can we make our own game?
Do some research on Maximum Football, its a game that was on its way to being a Good game. But I guess the developer didnt listen to friends who were helping, he was hardheaded and did it HIS way and in result the game didnt turn out as is should have.. Sad
Need a Game that is alot like FB Pro98 then a gameplay of 2k8 and Grafics of Madden 13.Comment

Re: Can we make our own game?
I am sure you can make a custom football game that has different leagues that could simulate high school (players only can be here 4 years), college (2-5 year max), and then pro (max of 20 years if healthy and depending on position)
Obviously there would be more factors for the players but I think programmers could make something along these lines. I sort of want to look into this myself now.Fan of... Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and Detroit Pistons

GREAT post Juce!!! Business/Marketing major??
1st item on my checklist would be to find someone who is able to code, make a disc, has special type of PS, (i'm guessing to make a PS3 game?), I mean that is the foundation right, producing that prototype disc?
2nd item would be to find a graphics person, especially with your idea of making a presentation CGI trailer.
Those are the two people I would build my team around. Concepts, I know what we're looking for, I just need the people that can actually make it happen. To use my major as an analogy, I'm the Director/Writer, but I need the DP(programmer) and actor(graphics) to get the vision on film
Anyone interested?
You know, I am serious, I mean companies have more unique origin stories than this! Look no further than Jobs/WozinakComment

Re: Can we make our own game?
You DON'T need to create the game on 360 or PS3 to begin. Make it on PC for the first few years. Let the community improve it by their own mods. If you do it right the first time no one will want to mod it, but that is highly unlikely.
(Note: Developing console games is very expensive... around $3M to $6M, PC games would more than likely cost less)
Then after it has made somewhat of a name for itself you can put out a console version. This would only involve compiling the code to the format required for whichever console. Honestly I wouldn't buy a console version of any indie football game because it would lack the depth that I want in a football game and I highly doubt would be capable of multiple league dynasties. (I.E. NFL, FBS, and FCS all in the same game at a bare minimum.) Also it would be very tedious to create a bunch of teams on a console so to get people to even use it you would need to have a PC interface to create the teams, but in a PC version of the game you could just have this built into the game.
Either by accident or on purpose EA got this somewhat right with the Sims franchise. There is such a large community for Sims mods and I think any game that is going to compete with EA Sports without the NFL or NCAA license needs to be designed with modding and customization in mind because most people are going to want to replicate real life football leagues accurately.
Also if you produce it on console only you will be competing with Madden and NCAA. Not very good odds to make any money. If you produce it on PC you will be competing with the Black College Football Experience and Madden 08... much better odds of succeeding!!Comment
