10 years and an entire console generation, 2k5 still the champ

I mean, Madden 25 is okay. the graphics are good, minus the jacked up jerseys and special ed helmets. the lighting is beautiful, as is the field if you get close enough to it. the franchise mode is hit or miss, i personally don't like the clunky XP system. give me potential/coach ratings/player's performance to determine player development please. OR, give me an actual practicegameplan schedule, a la 2k5, just make it actually work. Like Lead Blocker in Madden 07, EA is making the player do this instead of having the game do it for you hands off, like it should have been.

but gameplay? Madden still has that detached feeling. 2k5, aside from spin move glitch, drops and some coverage issues, it plays better. IMO it looks overall as good as madden because there's no glaring, freak show issues to bring down the department as a whole. Sound is better, On field chatter has context, commentary has context, crowd noise is better. Presentation is better, replays actually make sense.

Man, i don't know what other game has been the standard as long as 2k5.

I will say, I find it stunning how little actual progress has been made to Madden in 10 years.

I bought Madden 25 mainly because my son plays it and I wanted the NFL Sunday Ticket. I was watching him play (he's strictly online) and honestly couldn't see a difference in how the gameplay presented from earlier Madden editions. I'm considering more and more to get a 360 for myself and learn how to get the custom rosters ported to it (can't be that tough) as well as for NHL 2K10, since guys are making rosters for that as well and it is honestly one of the better offline hockey games, with the proper tweaks, that I've ever played.

I popped in 2k5 (PS3, BC) and besides the dated stadiums and graphics, I agree. It still more closely resembles a TV broadcast than anything Madden has done.

And the gameplay------wow, just wow. I tend to forget over time just how amazing this game is. I LOVE watching replays here as opposed to Madden!

By far one the best playing football games ever. Does anybody know if they are making any roster updates for the APF 2k8 for the up coming season? I know they did some last year 2k13.

Yea 2k5 is Pretty Good, but Im really thinking of getting a 360 and Hex editing 2k8. THATS the Best Onfield game.. With 2k5 being 2ed.

I used to be a 2k5 junkie and roster maker.A few years ago I converted to Madden because I found it acceptable and 2k5 was starting to feel a little dated.I play from time to time and find it refreshing to actually see penalties that work, challenges and especially player movement and interaction. It really tempts me to go back altogether. The graphics on a bigger, nicer television are pretty bad at this point as opposed to back then. That's really the biggest negative.

I don't know if it is 2K being so great or EA being so content with themselves.

Whichever, I agree with the OP.

EDIT: It is kind of crazy that EA don't have a halftime show. Sad really.

I feel people act like 2K was an amazing game. I enjoyed the game and found it fun, but it was certainly not perfect. I feel sometimes people bash Madden and act like 2K was perfect. I agree that Madden definitely has it flaws, but I have enjoyed playing it this gen for the most part. And we are comparing this gen to previous gen. 2K never made the switch to 360/PS3(I think) Who knows how the game would have progressed or regressed.

I dont think its a bash madden and 2k was perfect thing. Its that 2k seemed like they wanted to put what happens on sunday in the game. Ea seems to be content with the game they have instead of adding features and gameplay additions that should be in the game.

It's about the fact that EA doesn't fix well documented issues that carry over from year to year. They don't work on things that 2k got right 9 years ago such as halftimes show, penalties and challenge system to name a few. They can't get sim stats right year after year and create more bugs and issues that people have to wait on to get patched. They can't even get the proper team celebrating a Superbowl victory right. They obviously don't care or they would test their product before releasing it with these flaws.Invisible players....really!!!

2k8 is a better game than 2k5. However I do not like the kicking mechanic in 8 at all should have left it a button press. They made the game tough to mod with only 25 team slots but for a pick up and play game on the 360 2k8 is still amazing. The PS3 version while good is not up to the 360 version.

Well said, look at what happened to Sony's gameday and gamebreaker from PS1 to PS2. Wasn't too good. Would have been nice to see the transtition that 2K had planned.

True, there's no telling whether 2K's brand of football would have been exceptional at the next gen level, but I think where most people could agree is that 2K made EA better and vise versa.

Think about the span of 2000-2005; there was ridiculous amounts of innovation and improvement between each respective game because they had a competitor. Presentation, graphics, physics, AI, Hit Sticks, hot routes, Signature Style, Skill Stick, etc. it was all in there because both companies had a lot of money, pride and bragging rights at stake.

Can anyone really say with a straight face that since then, Madden has been the pinnacle of football gaming? This is sports gaming, and much like sports, every one needs their rival to push your best to be better than another's best. As I've said for years: competition breeds excellence.
