Re: Good Job on Backbreaker for first attempt!!!

I think people are viewing this game much differently thatn most games that are $50 for two reasons. First, due to the pent-up frustration with EA's football series and secondly due to the anger at the NFL/NCAA exclusive contracts. If viewed completely in a neutral light, outside of those two issues, I'll bet a lot of folks would be talking a wildly different line on this game.

With that being said I hope it hangs around and continues to improve. It's always great to have competition. I just wonder if the money/effort will run out before it ever really gets to the point where it has a decent audience and can sustain itself...

The bigger question is if both Madden and Backbreaker did not have the NFL License and had to be measured on just gameplay and gameplay alone, what would you choose?

It's a fun game, great change-of-pace, but there's no way it'll be my primary football title this year (pretty sure that'll be NCAA).
I see eye to eye with you on this. It's a fun game , but all the short coming will come into notice when you play other footballl titles that offer all the features that a football title should have.

I don't think it's even possible in the first iteration of a sports game to not have a good deal of problems.

Despite the flaws, I am enjoying the game overall, so in my book it was a good first attempt.
I have a problem with this, and please hear me out. the sport of football has been out for many decades, and its not that difficult to gather information on the sport. All the rules , plays, and the history. I know it's not a NFL title, but you have to mimic the NFL rules and foundation for a football title to be successful.

It's also not difficult for them to look at other football titles that have been out for a while. Examine them and see what features they have and why they have them , and transfer them over to your title with your own flavor.

I have never made a football game, but I can gaurantee you this. I'm told to make a football game I can make sure that every feature that needs to be in that game will be there.

I can also lay out a great blue print for how the A.I would work for all apsects of the game. I could create a awesome control scheme, and make the game amazing. I can nail it with my 1st attempt.

I feel 505 really did not study the game of football as deep as they should, and just did enough to see if the game can be successful. Now they see that , they now will go harder with BB2, but hoenstly they could have done a much better job on this attempt than they did.

Let me work with them and I would ROCK this game to a level that would make football gamers explode.

I dont know soccer but If I had to make a soccer game I would learn the sport from true soccer fans and study the latest soccer games, and from this I would do a great job on my 1st attempt.

This game was in the making for 3 years and they should have done the same.

        Don't you think?

But I also realize this is now a Billion Dollar business and if the revenue isn't coming in from this game, then we might not see another one and done football title. But overall, I'm really happy with the game and it will get a crazy amount of play from me.
I would definitely have to agree...

I would choose Madden over Backbreaker even if Madden didn't have the NFL license. Really though it'd be more fair to compare the two after Backbreaker has been around for 10 more years. But with as many issues as Madden has, I'd still pick it over Backbreaker at this point.

License be damned, I wanted a good football game, shallow or not, and I didn't get that with Backbreaker. That should have been number 1, and they weren't able to pull that off. Thanks for providing competition I suppose, but it's in it's own way before it's in anyone else's as far as being a successful franchise goes.

I don't think BB was a good first attempt and I was not expecting too much.

What I was expecting is basic features that have been a norm in football games for a long time.

Re: Good Job on Backbreaker for first attempt!!!

It's all about baby steps. I remember the first 2k Football game that came out for Dreamcast. It was an ok game, with a single season mode (that took up most of the VMU!). Gameplay was a little bland, probably glitchy (dont remember bugs), Presentation was meh and had zero franchise mode or online play. I remember when i bought 2k1 when it came out. A vast improvement over 2k and I played the heck out of that game with my dorm mates. Eventually, we all got 2k5...one of the greatest (if not THE) greatest video FB game ever. It took several years for them to get it right.

I say this not to compare the two franchises, but to highlight the fact that entry level sports games usually do not get it right. But a foundation had been laid. Thats kind of all you can do on the first try. It's an evolution. Madden went through (Next Gen Madden still is), NCAA Football, Joe Montana Sports talk/NFL Football, MLB series, Triple play/MVP, World Series baseball, Choops, Celtics vs Lakers/NBA Live/Whatever they are changing it to...all of them. Most of them get it right, or close to right, eventually. Some, although, never quite get there.

Expecting a home run at the first at bat is just expecting too much. Just the nature of the beast. But a hard hit single or double is a good sign. I don't think the BB is a strikeout.

so why does someone get a warning for saying +1 but people can troll this board and nothing happens to them?

Yea I was asking the same question. What was about the +1 that warrant a warning?

The +1 doesn't it just say he agrees with the thread? or am I wrong?

Re: Good Job on Backbreaker for first attempt!!!

I think it was a solid first attempt and if there wasn't a BB2 I would really hate for the technology of this game to just fade into the wind and eventually be forgotten about(which I hope doesn't happen).

Even if there wasn't another BB I would at least hope that the euphoria technology could be used in another football title(if there was one) and yes even madden. If there is one thing we can all agree on is the tackling, player interaction, and animations of the game are incredible and head and shoulders above any other football title ever created and IMO can't just disappear. If this game failed it would be a tragedy IMO for us football gamers for it to never be used again.

Agree with you on that. They only so know so much about american football. It would better for them to hook it up in america and increase their sales in the future. I think they did a decent job on it and all. But it needs alot of work on it for next time around. That's where a american company come in and could help them out big time.

Agreed. I didn't think it was even a good idea to announce so early and before the game even released at that.

Just because, they announce a game doesn't mean it's going to happen. We don't even know if this one will be successful or not but, we'll find out soon enough though. I have no doubt that they have the money for another BB but, if the first game isn't profitable enough for them I don't see them going out of their way to make a second game. Me personally I think this game will sell well enough to for them to want to make a second attempt at the game.
