...secondly, I guess my point wasn't made on you, that doesn't change the truth of the matter - other's have succeeded with little resources and financials. I am saying it can be done and has been done. Fine if you can't believe it. So be it.Comment

Re: Maximum Football 18 Impressions/Feedback/ Game Details
There's a bit of a dialogue about PC earlier in the thread. If we are going to release it, the only way will be through our PlayMaker Club which you can join through Patreon. If that's the route we go, we will set up an IP checker and send out the file.
The PC market isn't big enough for us. We're talking like a 30x difference in sales between console and PC last year. Dave wouldn't be able to do this full time if we didn't focus on console.Comment

Re: Maximum Football 18 Impressions/Feedback/ Game Details
As I said earlier - still plan on having a PC version within our PlayMaker Club.
But if you get access to a console let me know and I can hook you up with a key. You should be supporting Axis too. It is tough slugging being an indie game developer and I'm sure they feel our pain too.
We sell a game for $17 - Sony/Microsoft or Steam is going to take 30% off that. Pretty much netting $12 per sale.
In order to even take home a modest $20,000 as a salary, we'd have to sell 1,666 copies! The PC sports market for a fictional football title is not that big, unfortunately. We need to go where the demand is to put food on the plate and pay for rent. Keep in mind the business has other expenses too (Unity licensing, Dev Kits, taxes, insurance, other operating expenses, etc).
So if the PC market isn't worth the time and effort, why were we lead to believe that a PC version would be coming this fall after the console versions? Is this a new revelation you all have come to? I don't think the market has changed any. But if you'd be limiting the game to subscribers only, then you've cut off probably 95% of the PC market.
I think your game will sell if it is a solid product. Build a great game and word will get around. It might take a few years before things really take off. You need to have a bigger plan instead of making decisions based on whether or not THIS version is going to sell well. Maybe you guys have already put a plan together for where you want the game to be in 3 years, what the sales figures need to be, and how you're going to get there, and honestly that type of information doesn't need to be made public. But when we, your potential customers see that the game is coming for PC and then later you announce that it isn't, all we see is yet another developer making empty promises. We've been there too many times over the years.Comment

Appreciate the offer, but I won't be buying a console.

We were anticipating we would have additional resources to release the PC version to the general public. Given the response and sales figures, we need to focus on console. I’d love to say that we are putting it out on PC because it means we have more than one developer on this!
The PC market has always been a vocal minority so that’s why we thought the subscriber route would be a good one and satisfy them. But alas doesn’t seem like people are happy with that plan.
We certainly have long term plans as a company but those plans would be further stretched out if we focused on PC.

I joined Patreon as a member in hopes of seeing this on PC. I am an old die hard Maximum Football player on PC and still play it. I refined the playbooks, plays, etc. and have concluded it is a good football game engine, just needs some manpower to work on it. It does have tons of potential, along with Axis Football. I hope both do very well.Comment

Re: Maximum Football 18 Impressions/Feedback/ Game Details
Since joining patreon for Maximum Football and downloading the official discord app on pc, I have actually lost connection to the Maximum Football discord (though I was officially registered on the discord before
Lost in limbo now
Spear, is this something you can help with? Can I PM u here or should I try to contact Canuck Play through a different channel...or discord? idk. Lost here now.
Edit - forget it, I found it again - just had to jump through some hoops or perhaps the app needed time for authentification, not sure. Though I don't see a specific patreon channel except a locked one under voice channels - is that correct? And how does one get access now to the playmakers club? will I be contacted through patreon?Last edited by redwo1f; 11-18-2018, 02:20 PM.Comment

Re: Maximum Football 18 Impressions/Feedback/ Game Details
Player models/graphics would help solidify you guys as competitor in the market, and the College Dynasty mode would put it over the top if done correctly. I would only add play by play if the other stuff is completed and if it's done really well. No commentary doesn't really take much away from the game, but bad commentary can make a game look worse in my opinion.
A good blueprint of what to do is what Metalhead Software (also Canadian) has done with Super Mega Baseball. The first iteration of the game really focused on gameplay, and it was a success despite not having great player models and commentary. In Super Mega Baseball 2, they improved the player models and added new game modes, but still no commentary. However, you really don't think about the lack of commentary when playing the games, and a big reason why is that the core gameplay is so good.

I really believe y'all should focus on animation before the other stuff. If you really nail that, I think you would get people to leave Madden on that alone.

I’ve got to agree , I think gameplay & things that affect the game should be done first . No one wants to play a dynasty if the gameplay in the dynasty is not up to par . New animations and models would be great . Also equipment. I know it seems so small but it adds character to the player . Such as Brian Dawkins’ black visor , or Allen iverson’s sleeve . Great job getting Doug ! Can only go up from here!Comment

The poll is looking at larger builds or projects for us within the game.Last edited by Spear; 11-20-2018, 02:08 PM.Owner, Spear Interactive

Re: Maximum Football 18 Impressions/Feedback/ Game Details
I'm going to make a comparison that I havn't seen much on here. I'm going to compare this game to Axis Football 18. Similarities include a small dev team, and a small budget (AF18 had a budget of $15,000.00.... unreal what they were able to acheive)
This game has better player movement, and overall more realistic animations. The catching animations look better (but still need work), the side to side movement looks better, overall the pace also looks better. The body types are more appealing and look more realistic moving around or at a stand still, and overall the players move around on the field more like real life, they react better to surroundings. The lack of commentary is actual a good thing in comparison to AF18, as the AF18 commentary is super corny, very basic, and most people just want to turn it off. Your game also has cutscenes, which obviously add to the immersion.
Sound effects need work in both games, whether it be the crowd noise, the sound of a tackle, etc. The clipping in this game stands out like a sore thumb sometimes, as you see players walking through eachother, or arms legs going completely though another player. However, this is also a problem on big budget sports games like NBA 2K, where clipping is happening constantly. I know its tough to control. Graphics wise, making the textures look less washed out (More defined), and give the crowd some TLC, and it will improve the visual appeal dramatically.
AXIS Football is on its 4th or 5th year in development, you are on year 2. I'm really impressed with your progress. I have not played this game yet, just read a lot about it and watched videos, and looked at feedback. The "this is trash" crowd while annoying, should not be ignored. They are completely wrong about it being trash, but it's whats behind that comment (Which they wont divulge) that matters. Most of the time when someone says a game is trash, it revolves #1 around animations, and #2 around graphics, which was the case with NBA Live between Live 14 and Live 18. So your biggest challenge is turning those people around, the people who give quick negative soundbites but seldom give more information.
If you release this game on PC (Which I would recommend), more than likely modders would have at it.
Also, if you implement commentary, please don't make it cheesy or cringeworthy.
Congrats on the Doug Flutie signing, as well as the early success with the game. I am pulling for you guys.Comment
