Trying to word this the right way in my head.

They don't really get away with it. They just haven't been called on it (sued) as of yet.

The chance is always there, albeit, very unlikely.

Similar to what I mentioned about this game, anyone could pursue litigation if they chose to but for both games, the potential gain is minimal so it's very unlikely.

Axis chose to take that gamble, but neither game is immune to the chance. It may just not be worth the risk here.

spear, curious your thoughts on the news that ncaa is looking into allowing likenesses, etc. to be used and compensated. have y'all had any conversations with ncaa on that front?

We asked them about yesterday's news article that was on ESPN and Barstool Sports - we were specifically told: "All options for compensating student-athletes would be unrelated to the student’s athletic abilities so I doubt it would allow for the use of their likeness within a football game".

The committee was specifically formed to determine if compensation for names and likenesses of student athletes is feasible.

So yes they are not looking into “pay to play” but appropriate compensation for jerseys, bobble heads and yes video games.

Sounds like a smokescreen answer from the ncaa to you.

There is a licensing agency that handles everything for the NCAA - it's not directly handled by the NCAA. Spoke to them again today, lots of further insight including details on the Madden 20 deal. It appears we are still far from seeing a College Football experience video game.

Litigation is still a big fear for all parties involved (schools, licensing agencies). Certain schools don't even want to be included in Madden/2K modes, let alone a separate "College Football" game.

There would have to be a massive royalty guarantee in order to get people to move and get rid of fears. With a $60M settlement - we're talking a lot of money.

IMO - I don't think the issue is EA not willing to go down that road from a cash perspective. I think the issue is getting every school in agreement and comfortable with the risk.

As I've said before, I think it's very feasible to go out and get Boston College and a few other schools that would be agreeable. That's been suggested to us by Learfield/IMG.

But doesn't make sense for a company our size. I don't think a few schools would move the needle for us in terms of sales. We'd still be paying a hefty royalty for a handful of schools. If we are going to pay a royalty, then it might as well be for a large number of schools.

Yeah I wish I can say that’s surprising. Oh well.

I think it would be a different story if EA dumped a crapload of money and said "don't worry we'll take on the risk of litigation and indemnify everybody!".

I get the disappointment as I miss NCAA as much as everybody else.

We will continue to provide an indie alternative. We aren't trying to replace NCAA and we'd still exist if that game was released every year.

Is their definitely not going to be any commentary in the game this year?

Is it because of the budget or is not feasibile to put it into the game this year?

I was thinking it would be cool to do like a radio broadcast of the game. Madden did this last gen and I really thought it was refreshing. I think it would be really cool in a college game.

It’s more about timing. We have to submit for certification over the summer in order to hit the September release. We have added SO MUCH this year (Dynasty, New Animations, Player Models). Commentary hasn’t been a high priority in comparison to the other features. We did add College style band music but commentary is a bigger project. We also had commentary on a Twitter dev poll and I think it finished last.

With that said, it’s on the radar for the future and I have a call with a well known commentator in a couple weeks to explore the possibility.

Just curious, I assume this follows college rules where the clock stops on first downs? Not too sure on the situations or the timing in terms of whether this is just after the 2 minutes or however college football does it.

Has anything been done to improve the No Huddle Offense for outside of College rules?
