    Re: Favre to the Vikings?

The Minnesota Vikings will not sign free-agent quarterback Brett Favre(notes), a source close to the team told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday.
The source said Favre told Vikings coach Brad Childress that he wanted to remain retired in a phone call that took place sometime in the last day. Favre is expected to publicly explain his decision soon.
Favre retired after the 2008 season, which he spent with the New York Jets. There was speculation that the Vikings were interested in bringing in a veteran to compete with Sage Rosenfels(notes), who was acquired this offseason from the Houston Texans. Rosenfels is atop the depth chart heading into training camp, with Tavaris Jackson and John David Booty(notes) also on the roster.

Actually it could be pretty bad in this case too because Jackson's growth as a QB may be stunted forever now because of this.

This is clearly a case (like the previous time) where it's better to go with the flow rather then go with the big splash. Yes, i'm referring to the Herschel Walker trade, before the trade the Vikes were strong playoff contenders who kept on plugging away but then they gave away the farm for Walker and the team actually REGRESSED with him on the field. Now the Vikes are gambling on old man Favre when it's probably best to go with T-Jack who actually performed VERY well down the stretch last year. Are Vikes fans this myopic that they'd go for the big name "franchise" guy rather then Jackson blossoming into a pretty good QB.

The Vikings don't NEED a pro bowl/superstar type QB. All they need is a guy who can make the right throws at the right time and keep mistakes at the minimum yet now they're going for the ultimate gunslinger who has shown last season that the only thing he can throw are INTs!

      Good luck Vikings fans...Good Luck!
I'm pretty sure Sage is set to be the starter. I actually look at the situation like the 2000 Ravens. TJ playing the role of Banks... looks like he could blossom into a decent QB but when? Sage playing the role of Dilfer... he is what he is, and he won't win any games for you on his own, just need him to make good decisions and let the running game and defense take care of the rest.

We'll see if Sage can pull that role off. He made some bad decisions in Houston, but he also was forced to do more on his own (and we've seen how Dilfer looked when put in that same position).

I don't understand the partial season arguments. The Skins were 6-2 with Campbell before the oline started to break down. Too bad the season isn't 8 or 11 games long. It's not like Favre wasn't playing those other 5 games. Looks like he'll be staying home afterall. But then again, he did flip flop about 5 times last year before deciding he wanted to come back.

              Re: Favre to the Vikings?

Tomorrow you'll hear something completely contradictory from an un-named source within the Favre camp. A couple days ago it was "no" to Trent Dilfer via text from Favre. The very next day it's "Favre to meet with Childress". Last year it was "just rumors" followed by "give me my helmet or give me my release". I can't think of anybody in pro sports who's word means less.

For the Packers fans: what do you think will be the reaction from Green Bay fans when Favre runs out of that tunnel at Labeau wearing a Vikings uni? Will it be loud, venomous booing? A mixture of boos and cheers? Or will it be mostly cheers?

Not so fast !! There will be QB comptetion this summer. Sage is not a lock for the Vikings job..

Favre found out he would actually have to practice @ mini-camp, so he's delaying an announcement until after July 15th. We'll hear he's having surgery around the 4th of July & that'll start the rumours going.

You just laid it out perfectly. This is exactly what is going to happen. At least we'll get about a month or two of quietness, though.

If he comes out of the tunnel wearing purple at Lambeau there would be boos so loud you could here it in Appleton.
When rookie Randall Cobb was told by this U.S. Marine that he was a big fan of the wide receiver, Cobb said, “I think I’m a bigger fan of yours.”

it would be horrible how much booing, a lot of people who own only one jersey that is a Favre would be burning them

I know over twenty people that were ready to burn their jerseys. The internet has hundreds more that I have seen.

I think his wife was in his ear telling him to stay retired. She left Green Bay last year in tears and didn't go live out east with Brett(at least to start the season.) In one year Brett has gone from the fans pedestal next to Lombardi no pedestal. When he gets old, he would have been worshipped. Now not so much. If he puts on purple he will be hated till the day he dies. That is a big difference in how the rest of his life plays out simply over a fued with one man. I think his wife sees a bigger picture and I thinkshe is in his ear about that.

I have not just three but farve reasons why he should come back...

one - Super bowl caliber team
two - Vikings need a QB
three - Gets to play ted thompsons team
farve - chance to redeem last sesaon
