I don't know if you being a Packers fan was supposed to help but that definitely makes you a bit biased. As a Packers fan you should know the difference between the defense Favre's last year and in 2008... had nothing to do with Brett. You also have to know he's had some horrible years leading to bad records just before his 2007 season so he hasn't been a winner his whole career. In fact, towards the end of his career (last year included) he's been average at best with 2007 being an outlier. You may not realize that the Jets made A LOT of changes last year that would've had them knocking on the playoff door anyway before they decided to get Favre. You make it seem as if he deserves credit for the 8-3 record and not the rest of the games that seemed to fall squarely on his gunslinger mentality. If you want to blame that on his injury, then why should he continue playing with an injury he refuses to get surgery on, and considering how old he is?
Doc Walker on 980am (for those in the DC area) said something today that is dead on. Favre didn't adjust to the Jets, the Jets adjusted to him. The worry was that Favre would struggle learning a new playbook and style and would take time to get comfortable. He did and they adjusted to him. The team gave up on Thomas Jones too early in many games and hung the D out to dry by letting him take chances. His signing got a coach fired, watched the previous starter lead an 0-16 to winning the division (same division he went to btw), and left a team scrambling for a signal caller after he retired... again. There aren't going to be too many teams willing to roll that many dice.
