I disagree, their rep got even worse in recent years and it had nothing to do with them being good (because they weren't). They recruit more bad seeds with more bad attitudes than any other program in my opinion. I'm not saying that other teams don't have them, but most of the time they get dealt with, at Miami it's seems almost like bad behavior is encouraged.

Re: Edgerrin James has my respect
I wouldn't either.
His point had no merit in this conversation (at least his point directed at me). It just came across as sounding a bit whiny over how Miami's program was perceived in the past.
It's interesting that this topic was sparked by a positive story from a former Miami player and has degenerated to this.
Is anyone ever really truly content with feel good stories no matter what the background?Comment

Made him look like he ran the streets late @ night doing who knows what. Its not right to judge someone based on that, agreed. But we know what image that presents. You don't equate that look w/school teachers, doctors, wallstreet mavens, firemen, accountants.... family men..........Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Edgerrin James has my respect
What I found interesting is the article linked in the article. About how when Edge needed to get his game back, he started training at crazy hours of the morning. And, according to him, the only people up then were crackheads. So he'd give them 20 bucks and buy them breakfast and they would train with him for the day. Kinda crazy, kinda cool.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Edgerrin James has my respect
It's already been established that everyone in the thread considers him a positive role model and stand up guy.
The whole issue, right or wrong, is that it was perception based off appearance.Comment

Ahh, only on OS where a guy can admit he made a mistake based on one impression to people arguing over a word that has no true definition whatsoever.#RespectTheCultureComment

Where is this talk with Florida Gators players? Dudes there are getting arrested every five minutes, shooting off Uzis and what not. AND alot of their players resemble Miami players with the dreads, grills and so on. Where is their rep?
Sorry about making this a big deal but it amazes me that rep from years ago is tattooed on peoples' brains to the point that no matter what...things are the way they want them to be. Feels like a social study.Comment

I'm whiny because you, that Illustrator genius and many more people still think Miami is Thug U because of FORMER rep and how players look. Meanwhile, Penn State's clean-cut players are getting booked left and right.

Furthermore, I never said ONE thing about stereyotyping the players based on how they look, but if you COMBINE that with their roughneck attitudes, actions and expressions, you can't reasonably defend how these guys are perceived by others. Think Kellen Winslow Jr. threatening to kill someone on national TV, those are the kind of aggressive, uncontrollable hot heads that Miami (I refuse to call them that ridiculous "The U") looks for.Last edited by Illustrator76; 09-02-2009, 09:49 AM.Comment
