Thing with Mathews though, is he WAS going to Houston at 20. Frank Bush (Our D coach) said as much that Kareem was next on the list after the RBs fell off the board (Spiller, Mathews)

But I think San Diego just jumped too high, idk if there was a risk of Mathews going anywhere before 20...but you never know I guess.

That was far far too much to give up for a RB at that spot. If that was the missing piece, I'd agree. But they have a lot of holes to fill. And given their lack of activity in free agency this is the chance to fill those gaps.

Not to mention they already lack talent and depth at ILB now they just lost another one, plus Dobbins was a heck of a special teams player.

They easily could have filled the gaping hole at NT and RB by simply holding on to the picks they had. Instead they traded up to get the RB and don't pick again till 91.

Hopefully this is AJ's last rodeo, he simply is not getting it done.

Who cares if Houston was going to take him. There were several other RB's who fit the Chargers need. Not to mention Mathews has been healthy what one full season at Fresno.

If this guy doesn't turn out to be the second coming of LT, it was a gigantic mistake.

Eh, Amari Spievey is a good pick at 66. However, I have a suspicion that the Lions probably wanted Jerome Murphy, who was pick by the Rams right in front at 65. Murphy is more of the aggressive man/press cover specialist type cornerback than Spievey is.

I think read some where the Seahawks wanting to take him also. Also with so many trades Houston could of traded up to snag him up just as well and AJ probably thought someone like Houston or another team would take him. Yeah he could have very well jumped the gun and drafted him to high but, with the way this draft has gone there is no telling who would have gotten who If you don't move up.

I agree with that though, if he doesn't produce big time it will look like a big mistake.

I didn't really want Mathews at 20 either, so trading up to take him at 12 doesn't look good.

if Tebow goes in the first round, i have to wonder why nobody would be willing to take a chance on Armanti Edwards

Edwards is much closer to being a passing QB at the nfl level, is much more athletic, and just as much a winner
