If Im a free agent and I hear all this Im, at the very least, slightly hesitant to sign with them.

EDIT- Asking Toby Gerhart if he feels entitled because he is a white RB is such a ridiculous question. What do they expect him to say?
Entirely fair question for Ireland to ask. NFL draft interviews and the job interviews normal folk have to go through are two entirely different things. Unlike the guy working the fryer at Burger King or mail men, NFL players get guaranteed money. If I have to give a guy millions of dollars guaranteed, I have the right to protect my investment. Dez's mother is currently in prison for selling cocaine, so it's not like Ireland was accusing a sweet church going old lady of turning tricks. This question didn't come out of left field. A lot of people blame Ben Roethlisberger's immaturity on his mother's death. TO's lack of a male role model is often pointed to as the cause of his diva streak. To ignore off the field issues is absurd, especially for a team located in the party capital of the eastern seaboard.

It says a lot about Dez's character that he went to the media and made such a small thing into the story of the week. Clearly all that talk of Dez being a diva was justified. While I don't blame Dez for the media's overexposing of this non-story, his reaction to this shows me a lack of mental toughness on his part. If Dez is freaking out when a guy who could have been his boss asks an uncomfortable question, how will he react when someone badmouths his mother in a club?

      What in the world...

I don't really see how being late to meetings, talking with an agent/Deion, and forgetting his cleats has ANYTHING to do with whether his mother was a prostitute.

What if Dez had said yes? "Well, uh, okay...we aren't going to draft you because you're mother is a hooker."

Many athletes grew up with less than stellar parenting. This was way over the line.

                  Poor judgment is correct Ireland.

I understand a GM has to try to find out a lot of things about the player they are going to pay millions to but, at least ask him If he is comfortable with him asking weird/crazy questions or questions about his family first. I think Dez is in the right of getting upset because, I mean really who expects to get asked that? He may not have meant it to be disrespectful but, It obviously was as I would take it to heart also. I think he should of done the respectable thing and asked permission to ask about his mother/family before busting out is your mother a prostitute.

I think Ireland was wrong in the way he put the question i think he could'ev asked it differently but i understand why ireland asked him because his mom was selling drugs and stuff at age 15 some story like that. So Ireland wanted to see whats happened in Dez's family.

I think Dez is a little (bad word) because he told the media after the dolphins didnt draft him... i am sure "he wouldnt even remember the question if the dolphins drafted him."

I am glad tho Ireland called and said a sorry to him because the way Ireland asked it was totally out of line.

Being a drug dealer and being a prostitute are two completely different things. With that said he could of asked that question without directly saying it...asking Dez about his family life when he was younger, what his mother did for a living, his mother's childhood, etc.

Please explain to me how he could of said that differently because I can't think of to many ways to ask a person If there mother is a prostitute without getting punched in the face.

If you had to ask Dez If Dez's mother was a whore how exactly would you ask him without making him upset?

Because whether or not she is/was a prostitute isn't related to anything at all. So the question is what was he after?

Was he trying to find out more about his family? Ask him to talk about his family, his mother specifically, what she's done for a living, anything else questionable besides selling drugs.

Was he trying to test how he'd handle the question? Either ask a question that doesn't have to do with his mother or, AT THE VERY LEAST, after the interview explain that the question was asked to test how he'd respond in that situation.

The idea that this was an acceptable question in any situation is ridiculous... unless, of course you're a pimp and have an opening.
