Yah what happend there? The clock said :29 seconds left. Not sure why they would've called the TO with that much left anyway.

They must have not counted the TO that the RB called.

49ers defense is being exploited by a rookie QB doing the hard count at their stadium.

For one thing, the crowd could be making a lot more noise.

I have a problem with a PI being called there, what was he supposed to do all of a sudden stop on a dime?

                    Good call.

Troy...17/28 356 yards and a TD with no picks.
Alex can stay on the sidelines.

                          Re: Week 10: Rams (4-4) at 49ers (2-6)

I don't know if they loosened the leash on Troy Smith, despite this only being his second start but he obviously had a huge game, lots of big plays. But aside from the two deep passes to the right side to Morgan and Davis, it looks like the other big plays were all the result of improvisations.

Troy seems more of a risk taker than Alex, or at least, will throw up passes that Alex hasn't. He hasn't been burned, like the pass to Walker against Denver or the PI while he was going down to Walker again in this game.

On second and long before the go-ahead TD, I thought maybe Troy has a tendency to try to get it all in one play, like the pass to VD that was called back. But to his credit, on third and 4th downs, he took the checkdown to Gore because the Rams gave up a lot of room underneath to prevent a big pass and Gore picked up huge yardage on both plays.

The thing that's been missing in the 49ers passing game is big gains to the outside. Alex's big passing games have come throwing mostly to VD in the middle. Today, Troy hit Crabtree for two TDs to the outside, big play-action go route to Morgan, then a 2 or 3 corner routes to the right side to VD and Walker.

He's not afraid to gun that big arm and when he has time (most of the time today on play action plays) he is looking downfield. Sometimes, he might have run for good gains too.

They were still 0-10 on third downs at one point. They may have converted in OT. He looked a bit shaky a couple of times in shotgun -- like I said, he did a lot better off play-action and he dropped way back and had time.

Until his risk-taking burns the 49ers, 49ers might as well as let iot ride with Troy. OTOH, they could be back in the division race.

I am not too impress with Troy. Gore is the reason they won the game. And that look like PI too me.

Lot of big calls which took TDs off the board, kept drives alive.

Problem is the defender didn't locate the ball and he hit the receiver, who may or may not have been able to get to the ball.
