Yeah the 12th man causing false starts has minimal impact, like maybe an extra one per game if even that... And the noise doesn't really disrupt a highly tuned offense...

However, the Seahawks' home vs road record over the past decade or so is pretty significant... They flashed the record on Sunday night football yesterday... I forget what it was, but it stood out as being relevant. They just play better at home for whatever reason... A lot better. The crowd gets them hyped... Something...

But yeah still won't be enough.

2.4 false starts for the opponents per game since Qwest opened is not "minimal impact" IMO. Teams like the Saints and Colts who make a lot of reads at the line of scrimmage and use audibles a lot will have some adjustments to make.

That being said, I think the bigger issue may be the weather as it's supposed to be cold and rainy that night.

Yeah what i'm always concerned with a dome team, however the game is a 1 pm there time so it won't be as cold as it could. However with the Saints I think wind is usually a bigger factor then Rain.

Yea 2.4 False Starts for the Opposition may not SOUND like a lot, especially in the regular season, but in the playoffs, that's a high number since every little thing matters more NOW than it did in the season.

As for the weather, the wind shouldn't really be a factor for the Saints, especially if Brees has a strong arm.

You're reading the stat wrong... That's total, so it equates to maybe one extra per game compared to elsewhere... Maybe.

The noise is tough, but there are ways to combat it and it should be a non factor if New Orleans comes prepared.

Keep in mind these are the defending Superbowl champions. They are battle tested, so Seattle is not going to bother them a bit noise wise, but to think that New Orleans is gonna walk in and win 42-0 would be foolish as well. Any given Sunday, but the Saints are clearly the more talented team here.

I'll be pulling for the Seahawks just because I can't resist rooting for the underdog.

Just want to point out that there was a stat shown Sunday night that the SB winner hasn't won a playoff game the next year since 2005.

I hate meaningless stats like that. What does that have to do with a completely different team in a completely different year? It has no impact on this game what so ever.

All stats are meaningless when looked at the wrong way. This one does demonstrate how difficult it is, just like how many teams don't even make it back to the playoffs the year after getting to the SB. There are more specific reasons but this is still the result... fact. Does it mean the Saints have a less chance of winning this upcoming game? Of course not. But the post I was replying to stated "Keep in mind these are the defending Superbowl champions. They are battle tested" and that holds very little weight if no defending SB champion has won a playoff game in the last 5 years. The comment was very relevant to the post I was replying to.

I'm fairly certain that no defending SB champ has faced a team with a losing record in the postseason.

People keep trying to come up with reasons to pick Seattle, but all of them require us to forget the fact that the Hawks aren't good. The only way the Saints lose this game is by beating themselves (i.e. by going -3 or more in turnover diff.).

Just like I mentioned to da throne, I'm not coming up with any reasons for anything. The post was a response to the comment that the Saints are SB champs and battle tested. The Saints are a better team and probably would've won their division if they didn't have so many injuries early. Hell I had them right next to the Packers as my preseason pick to make the SB. But them being the defending SB champs doesn't mean much when the last 5 didn't even win a playoff game.

Re: NFC Wild Card: Saints @ Seahawks

The Saints can win easily if they don't turn the ball over, but therein lies the issue. The Saints are still a good team, but too many turnovers at the worst times have been an issue this year. When you're outdoors in January in the playoffs, more than any other time of the year you can't afford to waste possessions. So with that in mind, and this being the pros, it can spell disaster on the road even against a team like Seattle.

I'll also add on to wwharton's stat cite, and say that when you see a statistical trend like that happening over a period of time, it's not an accident. What the reason is can be debated, but the outcome can't be discounted. I'll also add in my own and cite that the Saints have never won a road playoff game in franchise history and it'll contine to mean something until they do.

                                I don't know who I have yet.
