Re: Why do you support your team?
Growing up in Alabama and having parents that didn't care about pro sports made me a Free Agent as a kid. I really liked the 49ers mainly because of Montana and Rice. Also, I liked Kansas City a lot when Montana and Allen were there but, I was just a football fan first and foremost. Every year when we would go to the mall I would buy some NFL attire. I remember owning shirts or hats for SF, KC, Atlanta, LA Raiders, New Orleans and Tampa Bay.
I didn't actually become a hardcore fan of any one team until a young kid named Brett Favre really caught my eye. I ended up falling in love with the way he played the game and becoming a fan. For Christmas that year I spent all of my Christmas Cash on a Packers Starter Jacket and a Favre Jersey. For 16 years I rooted for Favre and the Packers. Then the point and time came to were I had to make a decision and either go with the man who made me root for the team or go with the organization. And that choice made me realize that I was a Packer fan through and through for the rest of my life. I've only got to watch them play live once (when they came to New Orleans in 08) but, seeing them play at Lambeau Field is tops on my Bucket List.Last edited by jeremym480; 02-05-2011, 08:55 PM.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

I grew up watching and rooting for the Eagles. Everything around me was Eagles. Pajamas, shirts, always on TV, in the newspaper. I guess I just don't know any other way.Eagles | Phillies | Sixers | Flyers

Re: Why do you support your team?
Lived in Orlando from 92-97 and became a Bucs fans since they were the local team and had their games on TV. Moved to Cleveland for work in 97 and they didn't have a team here at the time so I remained a Bucs fans and always will be one.Comment

Re: Why do you support your team?
As a kid, I was actually a Cowboys fan. It was during their 90's dynasty, the days of Aikman, Emmitt, and Irvin. I lived in Dallas too. And still to this day, somewhere packed away, I have a picture of me when I was 5-6 sitting on the couch with my dad wearing a Cowboys shirt. Ironically, I now hate the Cowboys.
I moved to Indianapolis when I was 7 and that's when I picked up the Colts. Grew to love Peyton Manning. Went to several games when I was young with my dad and one with my grandpa. And them being the local team it was easy to choose them.Indianapolis Colts
Indiana Pacers
Indiana Hoosiers

Re: Why do you support your team?
I'm from Los Angeles, I love Los Angeles, and all my favorite teams were in Los Angeles when I was growing up. I didn't change allegiances when the Raiders went back to Oakland because I felt like they were going home, unlike the Rams, who I felt betrayed the city. I've been a Raiders/Lakers/Dodgers fan as long as I can remember, and ended up choosing UCLA over USC when they made their national championship run in basketball because I was surrounded by USC fans, and it's just stuck.Comment

Every week growing up my dad would faithfully go to the Live Oak games Friday, go to LSU Saturday, and tune in to New Orleans Sunday, even though all 3 sucked during the 90's (and one stayed that way for a bit longer). As a kid, every week felt like a new season, and my dad put on a bit dramatics to make sure that i thought he was excited, to get me excited.
It worked I guess. Every week I would watch and pray for a Saints win
The River City Relay was my first true sports heartbreak. And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: Why do you support your team?
When I was 12 I was a Buc fan because they had just won...
When I was 13-14 I was an Eagle fan soley because of McNabb and I was a Cuse lover from my time with NCAA football 2004. I even have a Javon Kearse jersey....what shame.
When I started playing ball at 14 and became more aware of the NFL and the other teams I became a Giants fan. Honestly Madden had a big part in it at the time because the Giants had Eli, a young rookie I could rebuild with and they were in NY. I never had any love for the Jets at all. So yeah Im a giants fanComment

Re: Why do you support your team?
I was young, I'd say around 6 or 7 (Born in 90). I was never really brought up on football, my Dad is huge on baseball and my Mother is huge on soccer. But I remember nothing being on TV on Sundays for kids back then; This was before we even had cable. LOL. The only thing on television that day was the Rams game and I hadn't watched one before. I knew of them, having the team just moved to St. Louis from L.A. But what kept my attention that day was number 80. Dude was making plays all over the field and I could tell that he was clearly one of the best players. The Play-by-Play analyst could keep his name out of his mouth. "Bruce makes the catch and stretches for the first." "Isaac with the one handed grab." "Touchdown Bruce."
So I fell in love with Isaac Bruce and continued to watch the games throughout the next few years (even the Tony Banks days, YIKES!). Then the improbable happened.
Kurt Warner. The Greatest Show on Turf. Marshall Faulk. Torry Holt. Ricky Proehl. London Fletcher. Todd Lyght. Blue and gold flying all over that turf. It was magnificent.
End of story. I was in love with the Franchise from then on.Comment

Re: Why do you support your team?
I was a Cowboys fans in the 90s since that was the only team shown on TV here really (or the 49ers, but my dad is a Niners fan so I wanted to shake it up a bit :P). Plus I was only a kid and a bit of a band wagon fan.
But then something happened in the mid 90s here in Aus and it was hard to follow the NFL. IIRC the Nine network bought the rights to the NFL and then proceeded to supress its exposure because they were trying to promote their own football (rugby) league called the "Super League" and the NFL was actualy starting to become a bit of a competitor. It wasn't until satellite pay TV started to become available that I was reintroduced to the NFL, which was about 97-98.
I always liked the Oilers too as sort of an AFC favorite and when they became the Titans I just fell for their style and fresh look they had. It was an exciting time for the team and their momentum carried me over into a full blown fan.Comment

Re: Why do you support your team?
I actually become a fan of the Buffalo Bills because of Tecmo Super Bowl. QB Bills (Jim Kelly), Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, James Lofton, Cornelius Bennett. They were one of the best teams, and I wasn't that good, so I needed a great team to compete with my brothers, who were amazing at the game (NYG and CHI fans, living just south of Philly). My location explains my knowledge and partiality to the Philadelphia Eagles (though I wouldn't classify myself as a fan of them, though I seem to follow and know more about them then actual "fans"...). Almost became a Chargers or Chiefs fan due to TSB, but decided upon Buffalo. Did I mention this all happened around 2000, a decade after TSB was released?
Turns out, I'm one of the most loyal fans to a team outside of the area that I know. It seems the casual fan is a huge fair weather/bandwagon fan. It'll be amazing to see the Bills successful again after years of futility.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Why do you support your team?
Because I'm from New Orleans and grew up watching them. I also used to watch the Lions because Barry Sanders is my favorite player ever but I was never a fan of theirs, although the first jersey I ever owned was a Lions jersey. I actually still have that Barry Sanders jersey somewhere in my house.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Why do you support your team?
Born in Northern VA in 1981, raised in Northern VA, and Central Maryland. My first sporting events have been Redskins, Capitals, Bullets (Wizzards name is terrible) and Orioles. I've alway been a fan of them so have many members of my family, although lots of Cowboy fans too. I've invested a lot of $$$ and free time into my fandom and don't see my self ever not rooting for them. Athough with the exception of the Capitals. It was a lot more fun to be a fan of those teams in the 80's than it is currently. The Caps just wait until the spring to break hearts.
I'm lucky though that I've managed to remember two of the Redskins Super Bowl wins. I still have a VHS tape of both Doug Williams and Mark Rypien's super bowls. I feel bad for the kids who are fans of the Skins now, all they know is struggle. We had season tickets to the Orioles from 1995-2000 so I was there when they last had a winning season and were Wire to Wire AL East Champs. I was there when the "Bullets" last made the play-offs after the 96-97 season. I was also there when the Caps were swept in the Stanley Cup Finals.Moderator

Re: Why do you support your team?
I was 8 in 1995, and I didn't have a favorite team. I had bounced from the Cowboys to the Redskins and back roughly 4 times, and neither of them stuck to me.
I watched the first game in Jaguars history and fell in love with their uniforms. The teal was something I'd never seen before, and I decided that day I would be a Jaguars fan for life. 1996 happened, and it was cemented.
I like being able to say that I was in on the ground floor.Rose City 'Til I Die
