Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
I want Steve Smith back in NY. He'd do well as Manningham's replacement. He was the definition of clutch in this offense playing Cruz' current spot. The transition would be easy. But he'd have to be a bargain sign. He has no leverage after the abomination of a season he had with the Eagles this year.Comment

Seattle.
No, but I would, for the right price.
I feel so badly for Campbell. Hopefully, wherever he signs, this is the time that works out. He could have a Rich Gannon second half of his career (maybe not as potent). I think he has the talent to play well and at least be a "good" option at QB.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
At this point it all depends on him. If Campbell is deadset about still being a starting QB in the league, his is gonna struggle to fins a place to play. I mean I would love to have him come back to Washington but that isn't gonna happen. But if he is willing to go somewhere to be a back up for a season or two to see how the landscape plays out. Hell if the Colts decide to part ways with Peyton Manning Indy might need a veteran to back-up Luck he could be there.
Campbell can still play the position, he just might not be a starter for a couple of years, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for him. He has been put through the NFL ringer for a QB. I still like the guy and still think that he can play in the NFL.
Top of my head though.
Seattle
Indy
NY Jets
Jacksonville
Cleveland
I'm sure there are a few others, but he should land with a team, that has some issues at QB (a la the Jets,) or will be breaking in a new QB and wants a veteran behind him. (Indy, Cleveland should they get RGIII)Last edited by N51_rob; 02-13-2012, 01:11 PM.Moderator

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
Wow, apparently Randy Moss wants to make a comeback. This news kind of excites me so I wonder if teams want to sign him.
Former New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss announced that he is coming out of retirement Monday morning.
Speaking with fans for nearly an hour on his UStream live video channel, Moss, who was celebrating his 35th birthday, said that off-field issues forced him into early retirement and that he is now ready to return to the game.
"I had to give the game up. I didn't really know how long I was going to give it up," Moss said. "I just had a lot of bigger things to tackle off the field than sit here worried putting a helmet on knowing that my heart and mind wasn't really into it because I had some things off the field.
"Now that I've been able to address those problems and try to get a grip on things. I had a talk with my family, they let me know, 'Baby it's fine, whatever you want to do.'"
Moss caught 28 passes for 393 yards during a tumultuous 2010 season split between New England, Minnesota and Tennessee. He quietly filed his retirement papers following the year.
Despite a bitter end to its three-year marriage with the receiver, New England could have interest in bringing Moss back.
He won points with owner Robert Kraft by making an unexpected visit to his home following the July death of his wife, Myra, and the team needs a wide receiver.
After watching Chad Ochocinco struggle to learn the playbook and make an impact this season, bringing someone back with knowledge of the system could be appealing.
Moss said Monday that he has no preference on where he plays next season -- at one point he scoffed at a fan who told him not to play with the New York Jets -- but also acknowledged that it's possible that his playing days are over due to his antics.
"Hopefully I get on a team. You never know, I may not get on a team, nobody may not want me on their team. You never know," Moss said. "Best thing I can do is pray to god everyday that my situation works out. I want to play football, I want to go to a team and play some football."
After earning a reputation as a malcontent early in his career, Moss re-established himself as one of the game's greatest receivers by catching 259 passes for 3,904 yards and 50 touchdowns in over a little more than three seasons with the Patriots.
However, he began to sulk during his final season in Foxborough. He bought his ticket out of town after complaining about his role during a press conference following a season-opening win over the Cincinnati Bengals, and punched it following a halftime argument with offensive play caller Bill O'Brien during Week 4.
Moss was then traded to Minnesota, where trouble followed him. He clashed with coach Brad Childress and brought embarrassment to the franchise by berating a caterer over the quality of food served at team headquarters.
The Vikings cut him and Moss quickly signed with the Titans, where he languished on the bench for the rest of the season.
He believes those issues are now behind him and says that all he wants to do is play football.
“Faith, family, and football, that’s my M.O., bro,” Moss said. “Your boy be back for the upcoming season.”

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
If he's learned from his year off how special it is to play in the NFL and has the right attitude there isn't a doubt in my mind he can still play at his age.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

He'll never have it as good, like he did in New England again.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
I agree that this guy hasn't really been afforded a legit shot to show his stuff yet...Seattle.

Clock is ticking though...
Here's an interesting read on the topic:
I don't see Miami playing out if Flynn joins Philbin there...
Denver, KC and Seattle are all "I doubt it's" to me...
IND or CLE (to help transition Luck / RGIII) could work...
He also may be good for BUF or NYJ, to light a fire under the current starters there...
A lot of it will be determined by where his head is at...
I wouldn't be surprised if he's still got "the fire" OR if he's just about had it...
He's is, (IMHO) the "X the unknown" factor in the upcoming 2012 QB shuffle...
Or:
Office Depot...
Cruel, but hey...I laughed...hard...

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
Seattle isn't very likely for Campbell seeing as how as far as I know Tom Cable's still an offensive coach there and Cable benched Campbell for Gradkowski back in 2010 before Al demanded he start JC, and JC didn't shed too many tears when Cable was let go. Or else that would be an ideal landing spot.
He could go to KC and compete w/ Cassel. Places like Indy, Cleveland and Jacksonville are possible but I don't see Campbell as the type of guy who's willing to be a placeholder for a young QB before he's shoved out yet again in another year or 2.Comment

I think he would if he still wants to cash NFL checks.Moderator

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
I agree. But lets say Cleveland drafts RGIII. They call on JC to be the "stop-gap" while RGIII gets a little more familier with the playbook or whatever. Cleveland starts fast under Campbell 4-3, 5-2 or whatever. Do they sit him? Probably let him play it out, and hope they can trade him to a team that needs a QB in 2014.
I hate that that is all a bunch of what ifs, but that should be his mindset going into this off-season. The worst thing that could happen is he gets to sit somewhere and make more $$$ for a season or two.Moderator

Cleveland already has McCoy and Seneca Wallace, so I don't see why they'd go out and spend money to get Campbell even after they draft a QB.I agree. But lets say Cleveland drafts RGIII. Taking all other elements out of the equation, Seattle, Washington, maybe Arizona, Miami, Jacksonville (depending on how they feel about Gabbert) would be the only places he could go and compete for a starting gig right away and not just be a placeholder for a young QB. Then again most of those teams have a lot of other issues that bringing in a QB like JC still won't solve to get them over the hump. Of course he can go anywhere and be a solid backup for most teams in the league. In any case I doubt the guy's going to be out of the league completely.Comment

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
Something to keep an eye on:
According to ProFootballTalk, one of the terms of the new collective bargaining agreement is a reduction in the maximum compensation for restricted free agent movement from a first- and third-round pick to only a first-round pick.
With that in mind, you may see some teams take a hard took at guys like Steelers' WR Mike Wallace, Texans' RB Arian Foster, and Ravens' CB Lardarius Webb, each of whom is both young and also is at-worst a second-tier player at his position (at-best, among the elite few). I wouldn't look for a team with a high draft choice to poach any of these three, but maybe the Patriots take a swing at Mike Wallace, for example.Comment
