Not at the expense of increased potential for injury to other players.

        What? Yes they can.

BTW I'm not a big fan of the rule either. I know the league is looking out for the safety of players but sometimes doing that just leads to MORE tinkering later on down the road.

I miss the days when the rules committee changed or abridged rules for competitive reasons rather than safety.

I think kickers are just gonna put more air under their kicks and try to pin the return team deep.

I swear I didn't think they could be... I guess it just doesn't really happen bc there are rarely defenders closing in when the ball comes down? Even the short kicks that don't go to the intended returner are usually fallen on or the guy takes a knee.

I doubt you'd feel that way if you were a fringe player trying to make a roster and you had the chance to put a few more snaps on film.

                    That's exactly it.

It'll be interesting to see which NFL players know the rule if kickers start kicking shorter, higher kickoffs. Could end up almost like punts with the receiver of the kick probably not suited to do it.

The only change I'd really like to see in regards to punting is making it a penalty if the returner decides to blindside one of the guys that's trying to stop the ball from bouncing into the end zone. I despise the fact that that's allowed.

Kickoffs can't be fair caught and all players running are going as fast as possible... with the returner even getting a good amount of speed before contact usually.

The league leader in punt returns was 48; the league leader in kickoff returns was 37. How long they go for isn't that important, punt returners have the defenders on them as soon as they catch the ball, plus reversing the field is far more common on punt returns.

Regardless it makes sense as to why kickoff returns would be the most dangerous play in football, but I've never seen numbers that back that up. Yet the NFL continues to change the rules on kickoffs. I was only asking if anyone has ever seen the numbers ran.

You've never accidentally pressed triangle while fielding a kickoff?

                            No.

You think the WB and whoever else carries preseason games pays a premium if the game goes to overtime?

Only reason I can think of for the owners keeping preseason OT rules is concessions sales.

I'd agree, except I'm certain that concessions close at some point in the 4th quarter.
