What a boring product man. Really hard to watch this league when your rooting interest is absent for a week. Just awful.
Yep, felt good about just watching Sunday Ticket with the Texans off, and couldn't have been more let down. Three teams couldn't even score, a winning QB completed only 4 passes, and the closest game of all was an OT game with no TDs.

The NFL is lucky to have fantasy football saving its *** right now.

Yeah, it's awfully hard to find any real entertainment when your team is not playing. It's been that way for at leas the last few years but it's gotten worse this year for some reason. I couldn't even be bothered to take a look at any of the games last week.

I don't mind that some games aren't as competitive as others.

I do mind the way some of these games are being lost. A lot of it is just sloppy. Top teams coming out of the locker room with their bodies present, but their brains still in bed.

That's the point. The games don't necessarily have to be close. Close games are not necessarily good games. The quality of play is the problem.

The TNF game ended up being the best of the week lol. Bucs/Bills was solid which was one of the early games I got yesterday. Rest of the games were trash though.

I can't even put my finger quite on why it's not as entertaining. My only thought is that the game just seems so much more risk averse than it use to be. Every one just plays so damn scared of making a mistake that it just becomes a game of both teams playing not to lose. I just can't sit for 12 hours and watch these teams try to march up and down the field with 6 yard slant patterns anymore. And the few times a big play does happen, you can't be "in the moment" with your reaction because you immediately start looking for a flag.

New QB comes along that moves the pocket, scrambles, actually throws downfield and his coach spends the next off-season immediately coaching all the "fun" out of his game. Rinse and repeat. Can't wait to see how Bill O'Brien ruins Deshaun Watson!

I just feel there’s not as much talent in the league now. Or maybe there is but the coaching sucks. Every team in the league is just really mediocre or straight garbage though.

                    Re: NFL Off Topic

I feel like we're seeing the cumulative effects of two big factors: the disconnect between college and NFL play styles and reduced (padded/hitting) off-season practices.

This leads to a few things that produce ugly football: defenders who can't tackle, o-lineman who can't block, and QBs that flat out can't play.

Also It seems like there are way more injuries these days, especially to marquee players. Luck, Rodgers, Watt, Berry, Johnson, the list goes on. I haven't done any research on this, it's just a feeling i get from the eye test.

College play sours the NFL. Can't tackle during practice. Couldn't tell you much more than that since I've never ran a football team, but I can point to these two things pretty quickly.

Plus, veterans are retiring more often and you're just getting an influx of young "talent" all of the time, people who are not as experienced, and frankly just not as good (more athletic, but there is more than that to performing well in the NFL).

I watched Carolina own the ball for 2/3 of a game and only score 3 points while Chicago had a TOTAL of 153 yards of total offense with their QB throwing it only 7 times.

It felt like a HS football game.

I wish I could get into college FB, maybe if UNLV wasn't so bad. With sports teams cropping up like weeds in Vegas (NHL, WNBA, USL Soccer) I'm hoping I can get into more than just the NFL.

The TNF game was so good I wasn't even really upset that the Chiefs lost until the next day, lol.

This is similar to the Seahawks-Giants game. Seattle owned the ball for over 34 minutes, and had multiple long drives, but left at least 14 more points on the board, especially in the first half.

I feel like the talent is there in the league, but the coaching isn't. Don't know if that's a possible created by the CBA or not. Doesn't help that refs are making games worse by being consistent overzealous and tacky with the amount of flags being thrown in every game.

As much as I agree, I don't understand the amount of contact between WR/CB play. I feel like they really shouldn't be able to get their hands on each other, ever. First five yards or whatever, sure I don't care. Slappin' and grabbin' after that just shouldn't be.

On a somewhat related note, I don't understand the idea of offset penalties. I do if they are even consequences (say both offense & defense are offside at the same time or something), but a defensive NZI and an OPI. Or the defense can commit seven penalties including roughing the passer while the offense has a simple illegal shift, and they will still offset.

I also don't understand penalty consequences near goal lines, like suddenly "half the distance" comes into play, even if you have more than that much yardage to go (an encroachment at the 12-yard line will put you at the 6 instead of the 2 for some stupid reason).

Or better yet, the inconsistency of it all. How come an offensive hold in your own goal is a safety, but a DPI in the other end zone puts them at the 1-yard line?

Some of the rules are just dumb. I know this has nothing to do with NFL talent, but it certainly irks me all the same.

On that note, the Cincy-Pitt game wasn't completely unbearable, neither was the NYJ-Miami game. It didn't represent the best play out there, but they were competitive and not everything was a result of complete incompetence.

^^ An encroachment at the 12 pits you at the 7 because it's a five yard penalty. Not a 10 yard penalty.

It's actually pretty simple, if the resulting penalty is more than what is "to go" to the goal line is half the distance.

If it's outside of that (your encroachment example) it's not.
