Yeah, it did get to the point where as soon as a TD/FG, I could either flip the channel or use the bathroom, and have NO worries about missing anything. I mentioned this when Hester made it to the HOF. There were only 4 total KR TDs this year. Those 4 KR TDs are down from 6 in 2022, and 9 in 2021. It just feels like the kick offs are just being phased out. Nowadays there's no point not to kick it OOB.

Heck, we're getting to the point where we're seeing less punts. Most of these aggressive teams, once they get near the midfield, there not punting like that.

I will propose this again as I have before: for kickoff they should allow the kicker to set up anywhere along the 35, not just inside the hashes. By putting the ball there, the receiving team only has to cover half the field. Let the kicker kick from way out near the numbers and they have to cover the entire width.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

How is this better than what they have right now?

        Serious question btw

I have to be missing something because I’m reading this right I’m reading it as if you are suggesting the kicking team would willingly do something to create an advantage for the receiving team???

            RIP Andy Russell....

Steelers Super Bowl champion LB Andy Russell dies at 82

Former linebacker Andy Russell, who won two Super Bowls with the Steel Curtain defense, died Thursday night, according to WTAE. He was 82.

Russell was selected by the Steelers in the 16th round (No. 220) of the 1963 NFL draft but missed the 1964 and 1965 seasons to serve in the military and fulfill his ROTC commitments.

“He was a real top player there with all the intangibles and athletic skills, but not only that, he was a real leader,” Steelers personnel executive Art Rooney Jr. told Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Brian Batko. “The thing was, he was in the ROTC. Coach Buddy Parker said let’s take him, but the fear was he might go to the service — and he did.”

The first six seasons that Russell spent with the Steelers were lean ones — the team finished with a losing record in each. Finally, in 1972, the Steelers took off and the Steel Curtain defense was born.

Over 12 seasons, 10 of which he served as team captain, Russell produced 38 sacks, 18 interceptions, 10 fumble recoveries and one touchdown in 168 games (162 starts). He was named team MVP in 1971 and was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection.

The only unfortunate accolade missing from his illustrious career is a bust in the Hall of Fame, which he so rightfully deserves.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

That poem was written by a listener of Myron Cope after Andy Russell returned a Colts' fumble 93-yards for a touchdown in a 1975 Divisional Playoff Game. That game has marked the debut of Cope's Terrible Towel.

I thought I had quoted the post, I meant that for onside kicks. For deep kickoffs that wouldn't be a benefit.

With an onside kick, your big obstacle is the sideline. There's a real narrow window of "kicking it hard enough to go 10 yards before the receiving team grabs it" and "kicking it soft enough that it doesn't carry OOB." If a guy can kick from outside the numbers, he has the entire width of the field to target, including sending a long shot to the opposite sideline which gives the kicking team time to get upfield.

I may have misunderstood, but it sounded like Florio was saying the competition committee is considering changing the intentional grounding rules so you don’t need to be outside the pocket. Please don’t let his happen

Are they gonna just put a cone around the QB's at some point? It is ridiculous the levels they go to protect them.

I'd much rather they get rid of 'throwing the ball away' entirely at this point. Nothing is more maddening than when a defender has the QB wrapped up and he just throws it at the feet of an eligible receiver to avoid a sack.

Thanks for clarifying. Now it makes sense!

I could get behind something that increases the odds for the kicking team on onside kicks.
