I don't think that would be fair even if Tomlin laid out Jones.

Likely would be fined for it... Headset to helmet contact...

9:30AM kickoff? I like it! It separates it from just another NFL game that weekend. Oftentimes I'm like, "Oh, this is the London game?" Could open the floodgates for other regions to get the game with big time differences. I'm typically on the more (meaningful) games train, minus extending the regular season. This probably opens up another game to be televised locally in the typical time slot. It'll be fun to wake up to football, like the WC'ers.
    NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
    NFL - Buffalo Bills
    MLB - Cincinnati Reds

If Tomlin laid Jones out he'd deserve a year suspension IMO. That's too far lol.

Haven't read it all and it's not all available yet, but this looks to be a pretty cool feature covering a ref crew week 17 last year on MMQB.

The MMQB went behind the scenes with NFL referee Gene Steratore and his crew for an unprecedented look at the pressures and responsibilities of the third team on the field on NFL Sundays: the seven men in stripes who enforce the rules. In Part I, we meet—and agonize with—the boss

Anyone see the video of Cowher in '97 taking a step onto the field and cocking his arm back like he was going to punch a Jaguar player that was returning a blocked FG for a TD? Could you imagine the media storm if that happened today? He didn't get any fine, no discipline at all.

I wish I could link the video but I can't find it online.

I'll use this link because the memes are kinda funny

The video has him on the field? Your link says "As Hudson ran by the Steelers' bench, an angry Cowher clenched his hands as if he were about to step onto the field, but held himself back."

Any number of players and most of the special teams coaches were at the receiving end of Cowher's sideline wrath. Punter Josh Miller was often a target of Cowher's outbursts in games. His most entertaining sideline antics were in a Monday night game in Jacksonville in 1997, and the cameras caught many of them. At the end, he stepped onto the field, raised his forearm and later admitted he wanted to tackle Jacksonville's Chris Hudson as he sailed past the Steelers' bench on his way to a touchdown with a blocked field-goal attempt.

Cowher once stuffed an instant photo into a referee's pocket in protest of a call in 1995 as the first half ended. He kissed quarterback Kordell Stewart on the field in '96 in Baltimore. A Denver columnist called him a big, dumb golden retriever in '98, when former Broncos end Alfred Williams criticized Cowher for roaming onto the field all the time.
Clearly as media has gotten bigger and viewership has explosively grown, times have changed.

I understand times have changed but why does the game have to change as well. Do you blame the media or league executives? Or both?

The two primary reasons, IMO, are the media and the former players who are unable to properly save their money.

I don't know about the audience being different. Maybe it is just me, but most who watch football begin watching football at a young age.

I don't believe the NFL brings in new fans that never watched growing up. Unless you mean the younger generation because they will never know the NFL I (and most of us) grew up watching

Good comment but may be taken the wrong way. Some of those players who use to play in the NFL were making nothing near what the deserved nor the equivalent of what players make today. But I 100% agree about some of them having the inability to save when it comes to the players who played in 90s and 2000s.

Myspace, Facebook and Twitter. Founded in 2003, 2004, 2006. The audience is no longer a passive observer and as a result has changed a lot since 1997. Arguably the biggest change imo.

I should have added what seems to be a terrible pension plan (as told by the former players) is also a factor.

There's honestly too many factors, no matter how big or small, effect the game today.

They showed the clip on ATH today and Cowher reminded me of someone throwing a "psych out punch", like kids in school just to see if the other kid ducks/flinches, Hudson didn't react at all, not even sure if he saw Cowher.
