Agree 100%. Put in your back-up quarterback if you're worried about injury. This unwritten rule stuff is bogus. Football is a violent game. You know what, if teams start doing what Schiano did, the team with the mall might prefer to run a play rather than just kneel. And you know what, it would make the end of football games a lot more interesting. -

If you're so worried about injuries, do it from the pistol formation. More botched snaps, but the Qb wouldn't get hit
I like the play, and don't care if someone pulls it on Denver.Football: Denver Broncos
Baseball: Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs

Let me preface this by stating I am a Giants fan. That said, Tom Coughlin was completely wrong at the end of the game. I was always taught you play whistle to whistle and until the game is over. They were in the range where a turnover game them the chance to win. NEVER TRUST A DEFENSE! The entire "D" line was in the 4 point stance and if the "O" line couldn't see they were ready to pounce, shame on them. I have heard friends say, "well, Eli notified Tampa that he was going to take a knee." SO WHAT??!! What if the snap was poor, there was less chance of getting to the ball by backing off. There is no such thing as an unwritten rule. It's a rule or it isn't, end if story. Kudos to Schiano for teaching his team you play until the game is over! Enough of the PFL (Pansy Football League) and bring back real, hard nosed football played by men!Comment

Re: Sound Off: Unwritten Rules Good or Bad for the Game?
It's funny some people are acting like kneeling the ball is a favor to the other team. You do it for the benefit of your own team. If your up big it takes away the risk of injuries and if it's a close game teams do it to reduce the chances of turning it over. You looking at the Chair MAN!
Number may not tell the whole story ,but they never lie either.Comment

Re: Sound Off: Unwritten Rules Good or Bad for the Game?
I give all credit to Greg Schiano. His trying to change the attitude of that team and his doing a great job. It's a mans game. Playing until the final second.. There's nothing wrong with that.
Tom Coughlin needs to man up and stop crying about it.Comment

this is that college RA RA crap that doesnt fly in the NFL. Bucs had all 2nd half to stop eli and they couldnt and their new coach forgot this aint the BIG EAST any more. STOP the giants in the fourth and you dont have to act like a fake tough guy coach during the Victory Formation.Comment

Re: Sound Off: Unwritten Rules Good or Bad for the Game?
The bucs laid down the whole second half, so they finally decided to play with 10 seconds to go. This is just another example of a college coach trying to bring that college crap to the NFL.Comment

Well the Buc's coach is a I do, but you don't kind of Coach,..cause last week buc's played Carolina and with $2:00 min left in the game he had his QB kneel down 3 times,..so not much of a coach to me anymoreComment

People that are saying this isn't a cheap call don't understand the game of football. You kneel the ball to run out the clock at the end of the game if you have the lead. You do this for a number of reasons; to make sure no one gets hurt, not run up the score, etc. This is a man's game, not a game for cry babies. What schiano did was classless. (Oh ya and I'm a Patriots fan)Comment

Too bad the Bucs werent going all in when they allowed Andre Brown to walk into the endone untouched or when they let the sorry Giant offense sore 25 in one quarter. It wasnt illegal it was embarrassingly desperate.Comment

Re: Sound Off: Unwritten Rules Good or Bad for the Game?
You could argue it was a poor decision by Coughlin to leave Eli out there with 5 seconds left just to take a knee. If his so worried about Eli getting hurt, then put Carr out there.
Greg Schiano is just trying to make his team play tough. He doesn't want them to be soft. You think it's ok to say to your coach "Hey, there's no point in trying here.. They have won this". I would bench that guy for a quarter or a whole game. It's not over till it's over. That's the attitude he wants that team to have. More teams should follow suit. It's a mans game, people get hurt. They wasn't intentionally trying to injure anyone.
I've seen Giants fans saying "Well, you would be unhappy if someone tried to knock your quarterback out with 5 seconds left". As I said, they weren't trying to injure anyone. And they should be more mad at Coughlin for leaving Eli out there. I would be.Comment

Edit: this is assuming you are referring to NYs last score of the game. Otherwise, overlook my post.

Unwritten rules are good. I agree that they are a self-check for sportsmanship, more or less don't do something to injur someone. I have no love for unwritten rules where it is suggested teams stop trying to win.
Case in point. A few years ago the SF Giants had a no-hitter going into the ninth. The Padres were down 1-0 and the leadoff hitter broke it up with a bunt single. Bruce Boche was livid. I love Boche but gimme a break.
With the Bucs-Giants, I agree it was a good attempt to try and create a fumble. Screw Coughlin and his crybaby ***.What?Comment
