As much as I like Steven Jackson I say no as well. Doesn't have the same ability IMO as the other backs in the HoF. Also as mentioned above about the stats. It does hurt him that he hasn't really had a QB that could get the team far though especially as of late.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

jackson is a great player, and if he were in a better situation, he would have a better case. however, coming to the rams when he did has screwed his career and legacy very badly. right guy, wrong place.
not a hall of famer.xbox gt - bmorerep87

4 more solid seasons then yes. Not as a 1st ballot but still yeah he should go in. As someone who watch his whole career literately carrying this city's joke of a nfl franchise on his back since 2005, dude gets no credit at all for being the only consistently good part of that team.
He will get in the same reason Curtis Martin got in, for being consistent as hell.
Also for dealing with Richie Incognito by not punching him in the face for holding everytime Jackson broke a long run for a TD for like a 5 year period. LOL seriously dude is infamous around here for that ****. 2006 could have been bigger for him and Marc Bulger if the line stayed healthy thus without Incognito.Last edited by stlpimpmonsta; 01-03-2013, 02:12 AM.Comment

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
Jackson individually is quite a talented running back, but his career record (for whatever a win-loss record at running back is worth) is 43-87, according to Pro-Football-Reference game logs. He's almost never played on a good team. IMO to be in the Hall of Fame you either have to have been individually superior beyond compare as to transcend generational perceptions (ex. Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers) or you have to have been an integral part of at least one or two successful teams in addition to compilation of big numbers. Jackson arguably has the numbers, but I don't know if he has the "winning" credentials.
That said, it's debatable if he even has the numbers yet. Jackson currently has 10,135 career rushing yards and 56 rushing touchdowns. Recently-retired Colts, Cardinals, and Seahawks running back Edgerrin James finished his career with 12,246 yards and 80 rushing touchdowns. James also had five seasons with 50+ receptions, a feat Jackson has never accomplished. James also played on more winnings teams, with a career W-L record of 93-55 (again, I have no idea how much that's worth for RBs). Jackson has played in two playoff games to James' 13. So the question to those who say yes to Steven Jackson is, do you also say yes to Edgerrin James? (don't answer that yet, I realize how this thread is supposed to work)
Ultimately, I say no to Jackson to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He's a shoo-in to the Rams ring of honor, however.Comment

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
lol, I actually thought about that when I posted (not that I had it out for you but seemed to always reply to your posts yesterday). But I was really just making a distinction between McNabb and Jackson bc I think McNabb is on the outside looking in and think Jackson is a step down from him so there isn't even a question on him imo (agreeing with you). Are you sure it is not because you just have it out for me today?
Also, to add to Steven Jackson, he just has not been the caliber of runningback that truly carries a team all the way to the playoffs. If the Rams had more playoff appearances it would help him much more.Comment

Great thread and great effort to keep it on track.
Jackson -- no. He's gonna get lost in the shuffle of running backs when we look back on this era. When you had guys like Priest, Alexander, and LT breaking records, simply being really good isn't gonna cut it. The Edge and Warrick Dunn comparison is good, and that would actually be a great next choice for this thread. Backlog that one.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
I think it's possible a McNabb and or a Jackson can get in decades down the road. I've noticed this with all sports HOF inductees. You have players like a Ray Lewis, Manning (Peyton), and Tom Brady that will go in the first time they are eligible. Then you have players like a MacNabb who might be what I call one of those old timer sentimental inductees. You know the types I'm talking about. Every now and then some dude who's old as hell now, or already dead with "good" but not "great" numbers winds up in the Hall for nostaligic and sentimental reasons. It happens, do you think everyone thats in the Hall now that got in in the past 20 years, but they were like 90 yrs old when they got in actually truly deserve to be there? Some of it is character too. If someone like a Tim Tebow actually started for 20 years, decent QB numbers, no rings but he was like 80 yrs old, he'd eventually get let in because of his character. Do I agree with it? No. I think you can have amazing HOF numbers and bad character and get in. To me the HOF is all about what you did on the field or the court. If you were a all time top 10 at your position but you had all kinds of run in's with the law I think you eventually should get in. If you were just an OK player but you were the epitome if the "good guy" I dont think you should EVER get in.__________________________________________________ ____

Well about Shane Lechler, he has just as many Pro Bowls as Ray Guy and 3 more All Pro appearances. But Guy isn't in the Hall of Fame, and I dont think Shane will go in either. At least not before Guy. Punters just aren't recognized in that way. Can he be the first? Sure, but I doubt it. Does he deserve it? I believe so. He was all decade for the 2000's. But it could just be the culture of the sport and how punters are recognized that keeps him out.Comment

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
I don't foresee any punter getting into the HoF any time soon, K Morten Anderson who owns a lot of kicking records for example will get into HoF eventually but it's going to take a lot of time imo.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
Just a suggestion but you may not want to post the new guys in the OP going forward, may as well just make a new post.
I just think that as this thread grows in pages it would be more economical to just make a new post rather than to direct people to the OP.Comment

Not sure about punters. The only punter I know about is Brian Moorman. Do punters actually make the hall of fame? Thanks to LBzrules: So these threads won't be forever lost.
