Herm Edwards says it all the time. "Some guys love football, some guys only love what football can provide. The guys in catagory 2 dont stick around very long."
I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....

Not when you steal 39 million and set back the Raiders for 4 years. But I think he will be in for a tryout come training camp. Where he will get cut in preseason.

He didn't steal anything. They did a bad job of evaluating talent and paid him that much. That's not his fault. There were many that thought he didn't deserve that draft spot before it happened... or that money.

He'll be perfect for the read option. Hand the ball to the RB then block the opposing Teams whole D-Line.

A read option for Jamarcus means reading the menu and deciding whether the 12 or 15 piece bucket will be for dinner from KFC.

Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback

Jets just had to be the first team to publicly acknowledge he still exists, didn't they?

More recently, after Tannenbaum was let go, members of the organization had some very exploratory, informal discussions regarding former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the 2007 No. 1 overall pick who flamed out of the NFL after the 2009 season.

Russell should sign with WWE so the Rock can call him "Twinkee tits" too.

Revisionist nonsense. Russell is entirely to blame for the utter failure that was his pro football career.

Almost all the various draft experts, as well as most teams, had Russell tabbed as the top pick. Case in point: your Baltimore Ravens.

Brian Billick said on ESPN Radio that in his nine years as head coach of the Ravens, the highest grade Baltimore ever had on any player heading into the draft was in 2007, and the player wasn’t that year’s No. 2 overall pick, Calvin Johnson. It was that year’s No. 1 overall pick, JaMarcus Russell.

“We did a pretty decent job, and obviously they continue to do a phenomenal job in Baltimore, with Ozzie Newsome and his group,” Billick said. “JaMarcus Russell was the highest-rated player I’ve ever seen on any of our boards. So we all missed on JaMarcus Russell. Make no mistake.”

Billick (who will be a guest on Friday’s PFT Live) compared the way Russell shot up draft boards in the spring of 2007 to the way Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill is shooting up draft boards this year. Billick wasn’t suggesting that Tannehill will bust like Russell did, but he was saying that teams can sometimes fall in love with players for reasons other than what happened on the field during their college careers. And the Ravens certainly fell in love with Russell.
The reason so many people were wrong about Russell had nothing to do with physical abilty, in fact his measurables were off the charts. The problem lay in the fact that there is no way to measure desire.

Russell simply didn't care enough to put in the work necessary to be a successful NFL qb. It seems clear now that that from the moment Jarmacus signed his contract (including a $31 million signing bonus) he went into full "mission accomplished" mode. If that's not stealing, what is it?

His poor work ethic in Oakland is well documented. The fact that the #1 overall pick could be cut after only three seasons and no other team thought it was worth the trouble to so much as a take a look at the guy confirms that; John Lucas' decision to give up on Russell during his first "comeback" attempt in 2011 only serves to further prove the point.

Russell didn't fail because he lacked the abilty to play at the NFL level. He failed because he couldn't or wouldn't put in the work necessary to do so.

Ding ding ding. He was payed to do a job and he half assed his way out of the NFL. What more needs to be said. He certainly had the incentive. Granted the Raiders needed more than just a qb, but to not really try except on Gameday? I say he got what he deserved.

I agree with everything you said, but Im failing to see why he doesnt deserve a chance at coming back. Even if he was the biggest bust ever. If he doesnt deserve it he wont get another chance. You make it sound like you want him banned from life.
