But 35! He was the starting quarterback for 3 national championships at The University of Alabama! There couldn't possibly anything wrong with on-the-field aspects.

It doesn't matter what you do on the field if you can't strike the balance of Hollywood/non-Hollywood while being enough of a dick that doesn't care too much about winning.

If you can do all that the on the field part comes easy.

People didnt like Brady's body, or speed, or thought his arm wasnt that good.. Wilson was short.. and in a draft class where the spotlight was all about Luck and RGIII.... but Wilson and Brady still had "something" about them that translated directly to the QB position..and I'm not talking about a "winning attitude". They had something real.. and this is why I think no matter where those two got drafted they both have had success in the NFL... I don't think AJ is Russell Wilson or Tom Brady.
And no one thought Russell Wilson and Tom Brady were Russell Wilson and Tom Brady until they played well. My whole point in this back and forth was to illustrate how ridiculous it is to just write off players because of some "report". There is a reason all of the players drafted at this point weren't drafted in the 1st round. If any of them become great players, it will be a bit of a surprise. But to say someone is going to fail because he's too nice, is just absurd in my mind.

But you're entitled to your opinion. I'll stop with my sarcastic retorts now.

I wonder if Wash drafts AJ and it opens the door to deal their QB from Michigan State.

Eh, they're going BPA. And the front 7 is a need, it's an eye to the future. Obviously I would've liked to have seen us get an OT, but Ozzie and crew aren't going to reach for a guy.

When Dallas took Martin, or rather when Dallas won that damn coin toss, it changed our draft.

He just lacks the Hollywood blend that all star players have. He only won those because Nick Saban had that perfect blend of Hollywood/Non-Hollywood and combination nice guy/dickhead attitude and taught AJ enough to feign it through college. No I didn't, because I don't give a single **** about Alabama football.

However, if I were him, I would't care either. He knew he was gonna get paid, and his fiancee is fine as hell. He's livin' the dream.

I never said he's going to fail because he's too nice. I think you have to have a balance... if AJ was the most physically gifted and NFL ready (skill wise) QB in this years draft but was still "too nice".. he would have been the first QB off the board. What I'm saying is I think is on the field skills arent up to par for most teams to make up for the fact that he might NOT have any real intesensity when he steps onto an NFL field. That's what I was getting at. Its like teams are looking for redeemable qualities about a particular player that translate on the field. They talked about how Manziel seriously needs to learn to play in the pocket and because he doesn't that was a big knock on him (along with some persona issues).. BUT they came back around and pointed out the good things about him as a player that would actually translate onto the field... AJ kinda doesnt have a lot of those things that translate well onto the field. IF he was probably a way more intense of a compeitior in College and did show that above and beyond "hunger" then those kinds of things probably would have made up for whatever teams dont like about him skill wise and he probably would have come off the board by now. That's what I was getting at.

I don't know where the writers of these reports you're reading are getting that he's not an intense competitor. He got into a shoving match with his Center in a 42-10 rout in one of his BCS title games because they disagreed on a call. Saban often had to calm him down in games because he got too intense and it affected his play.

He may be limited physically, but I don't see how anyone can question his competitiveness.

What's this? On the field issues?

People thought teams would be enamored by his win-loss record, but in the end he seems to be a guy with a very average arm and not a ton of mobility.
