Re: Week 14 Discussion Thread
So much has gone so right for this bunch that now that things aren’t clicking people are looking to anything to try to figure it out. I don’t quite buy the bad chemistry stuff, the locker room drama stuff. Not as a primary reason at least, maybe as an underlying contributing factor though. Being consistent is the hardest thing to be in the NFL because the game is always changing and there’s so much that goes in to every single play when it’s 11 on 11 like it is.
They remind me of the Rams. Been so good last two years, suddenly all the things that made them so good have not worked due to poor execution or defenses catching on to it, and they’re not adjusting. The injuries definitely don’t help, I mean you had a dude who was on the practice squad as your WR1 at one point tonight, TE’s running routes filling in for WR, Lane Johnson went down. I do think there was some expectation that they’d be able to impose their will offensively on teams like they have been and when it hasn’t worked that way all season it got them flustered and kind of snowballed. They’ve gotten a bit more pretty offensively since Blount was running the rock for them, making sure Wentz earns his contract and Pederson can flex his offensive calling muscles. A lot of things contributing to an overall season long poor performance. Fact of the matter is there is no such thing as momentum game to game, so something that works finally one game doesn’t necessarily mean it will next week so counting on it to click won’t make it so either. They really do have to take it game by game and adjust accordingly.
Overall, the season has been... annoying to watch. At least now the defense is playing at a higher level, but the offense should be going back to basics kind of like how their final couple drives played out tonight. These ain’t the big bad Super Bowl Eagles. They can reach that level but they haven’t shown they can hit it on a consistent basis. Keep it simple and work through a game instead of expecting plays to be made.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: Week 14 Discussion Thread
I don’t feel bad for a team that gave up two TD in 3 drives and did nothing on their possession. In the end it’s an excuse for a loss in critical situations where your defense failed twice and your offense failed too. I’ll never understand why they deserve another chance when they’ve had a whole game of them.
I’d accept a complete OT overhaul to college style though. But adding another possession to OT I’m not good with.
And it's not about what happened in the game. That's beside the point of getting to OT.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

OT is an extension of the game. A coin flip only decides who gets first possession, not who wins the game. The teams still dictate that outcome. Giving them a response drive lets them off the hook for allowing 2 TD at the end of the game and failing in their opportunity to prevent the game from going to OT by scoring late in this particular game. I don’t particularly see it as fair to the Eagles that the Giants should’ve gotten ANOTHER chance.Last edited by slickdtc; 12-10-2019, 11:35 AM.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

You could argue it lets the other team off the hook for putting themselves in a deep hole in the first half.

Haha, touché. I think that shows just how endless this debate can be and how impossible it is to make it 100% an even shake for both teams in the current format.
I’d rather go to CFB rules and scrap this traditional format totally if they make another change. Make it TD only, and each score is 1 point so we don’t see skewed ultra high scores. Don’t even bother with an XP or 2 point conversion if we’re already going with a format so far from traditional play. Although I’d be okay with those, maybe not factor in to the score but as a bonus the responding team must reach to keep going.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: Week 14 Discussion Thread
I don't see how you're not for a more equitable format but for a format that is basically a different game entirely.
If after the Eagles scored the Giants got the ball back and went 4 and out would you still be saying that wasn't fair to the Eagles and it should have ended with their touchdown?Comment

Re: Week 14 Discussion Thread
I like the NFL OT rules. The only thing I would change is having something more meaningful replace the coin-toss....like giving it to the home team, or perhaps a stat from the game (yards, first-downs...whatever).
There is no perfect way to do OT in football. Any system that guarantees equal possessions gives an advantage to the team that goes last. Most any other system gives the team that goes first the possibility of an extra possession.Comment

Re: Week 14 Discussion Thread
I've said it before but will say it again.
If the Giant's get the ball and a chance there, they are at more of an advantage than the Eagles were. A massive advantage at that.
Say they start at their own 20. They go into EVERY drive knowing it's a four down drive. That's an advantage the Eagles didn't have.
It's fine as is.Comment

The CFB format eliminates the coin toss which seems to be the primary charge against OT rules and leads to the equal possession suggestions. I understand why the toss of a coin irks people. It’s the stuff that happens after that’s in the teams control that I have a problem with.
If those were the rules in place, I wouldn’t complain if my team scored, got scored on in response, and then lost later. I don’t like the complaining about rules after the fact when you know what they are going in to the game. Just like the complaints when a team misses the playoffs with a better record than a division winner. You know what you have to do to assure a spot all season. You weren’t good enough within the scope of the requirements to make the playoffs, that doesn’t change even if another team is worse record-wise — they handled their requirements and you didn’t.Last edited by slickdtc; 12-10-2019, 12:48 PM.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

The coin toss in college football determines which team might have to leave their defense on the field for back to back possessions which is also seen as a disadvantage.Comment

Well ****.
Football can just be canceled then. This is impossible. Lol
I don’t follow CFB much. Thought it was just based on who was home or away like in hockey shootouts the home team can determine who shoots first.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
